Uncheck "Enable Ripple Water" under "Graphics Detail" in Preferences... that will make it a darker blue.

It won't be a tropical blue though. It will be Bic pen ink blue. They ruined the realistic color of water a few updates ago when they made the sun too big.

The apparent color of the water is heavily influenced by the color of the terrain under it. If you (or someone you can talk into it) has access to the Region/Estate tools, it might be possible to get the effect you want by changing the color of the land under the water. If that isn't possible, you might try putting colored prims under the water (think about how blue a pool's water looks).

Maybe before? It still looks the same to me as it did back in January, before the sun went supernova. (I'm on a mac, though... maybe that makes a difference?)

I live on the edge of a lake, so I see the changes in water color all the time (the blue water color... my graphics card doesn't do the shiny silver water). Sometimes it is a very deep dark blue and almost totally opaque, so you can only see vague shadows of what is underwater (even right below the surface). At other times it is very transparent and pale blue, almost invisible, and things in the shallow parts are very visible. I haven't yet figured out what causes this change... it might be the ACTUAL sun position, but I haven't seen that FORCE SUN affects it.

One notable exception is that there is still a bug where some transparent objects can be seen clearly, and may even look like they are glowing.

I haven't actually noticed the color of the terrain affecting it. Shallow water over grass looks just the same as over sand to me, except at the times when the water is looking very transparent.

Checked = silver reflective water

Unchecked = blue water

So if you want blue, you need to UNcheck ripple water.
