I signed up for SL back in November but only started playing this last couple of weeks so I do not know very much. But I am having so many crashes and now the business with not being able to buy Linden dollars...

Is anyone else constantly beeing booted out and experiencing system crashes? Has any one been able to purchase dollars yet?

Do these bugs ever get fixed or is it one thing after another in SL? I'm sorry to sound so uptight about it but this has so much fun potential and maybe I just came in at a bad period in the SL development I don't know... Maybe it isn't even SL at all and I just don't have a fast enough graphic processor, I don't know. Just looking for a little hope - thanks.

Sorry to hear you are hving such troubles. No, I don't crash or have system trouble much at all myself.

As to the problem buying Linden dollars, can you buy them through this website? I thought the only problem was buying them through the viewer while in world, but I haven't tried to buy any today so I could be wrong.

I crash all the time, the whole system freezes and most times when I log out I get the message that SL is not responding so that next time I log in I get the "send error report" window. I have a great graphics processor - just persevere with it, it CAN be fun, just really frustrating at times :( As for buying Linden dollars, I havent been able to do that for a couple of days either, just get them here on the site :)

The Lindex problem was identified a couple of days ago and is being worked on, if it's not fixed already.

People seem to have varying experiences with crashes. It happens to me only rarely, but others I know have more trouble with it. I believe it has a lot to do with individual computer configurations. You could try downloading and using the latest drivers for your video card, turning off some advanced graphics features or making other preferences tweaks.

If you're on a wireless network that also cause trouble, though I think it's more likely to causing freezing than crashing (if your signal drops for just a few seconds, the sort of thing you'd never notice while viewing Web pages or reading e-mail, it can be very noticeable in SL because the exchange of data is constant. But if it's just occasional, it's probably not worth worrying about too much.)

check your graphic settings on the preference window and lower things clear cache and if vbo is enabled unclick it

very often after updates or reinstalls the preferences set themselves back on high settings which depending on your computer can cause crashes alot

Bear with because I am terribly new at SL...Where would I find this preference window? Is it a SL thing or my PC and Laptop? Yes, I am on wireless but actually have better luck - although quite bad regardless - on the laptop than the PC. I am sure my machines may have issues too since when I have a few minutes and can visit at work it just flies with no problems. I had even thought briefly it may be related to the time frame when more peeps are on - yet since this is world wide that really should not be that much different- peak hours and such -

I will look into the graphic processors of my machines to see what I can do with it and perhaps the memory.

Regarding the Lindex problem - I first attempted a purchase last Friday and since discovered this was wide range. I still have not been able to purchase any, either from within SL or from here on the website. I tried upgrading to Premium since having been here now for a week I can see I will be sticking around - but that did not work either. I read another thread where Residents were complaining that their payments were not being taken and they were concerned with having their account frozen and their lands repossessed. I wish it would get resolved...

It's in the SL client. You can change most of the prefs without logging in. Open the client and to the right of the Connect button you'll see Preferences (just above Quit). Click it and in the Graphics tab, lower draw distance to 64m. In Graphics Detail uncheck Enable Vertex Shaders and Enable Bumpmapping and Shiny. Make sure Avatar Rendering is set to Normal. If you still have problems you could also turn off local lighting (check Sun and Moon Only) and if the worst comes to the worst, set Terrain Detail to low.

Thanks for the info on where to find the preferences. Unfortunately, this must be the default since all these settings were as you describe...back to the old drawing board!

Thought I'd add to this the results. Proving just how addicting this all is, beyond the fact that I now live with no sleep because othewise I could not spend quality time with my SL friends, I went and spent $160 on adding two gigs of memory to my laptop thus improving my SL existence and permiting much more enjoyment. Thanks all for the input. Thanks AndiCat! Glad to be there ;)

Money well spent and I'm glad your now crash free (or not as often lol). I'm considering an upgrade here and there myself after joining up to SL two weeks ago.
