Just wondering how this happens. You put some land up for sale, cheap, and before you can even get your for sale signs put up, somebody comes along and buys it. How do they know so fast, is there some gadget that moniters land for sale, or is it just coincidence? If there is a gadget, where can I get one? :)

View/property borders. In fact you can chose lines or blanket colouring for visible identification.

I beleive people do use 'bots' to find land quickly, but I also beleive that this is "frowned upon" by LL. I'm not sure on either however.

The major factor is that hundreds, if not thousands, of people are looking for land. If you have prime land, or are selling at prices below current market value, chances are it will be gone in seconds as there is almost -always- someone searching.

Land is a premium market right now, and a sellers market.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Scripts cannot detect if a particular piece of land is for sale, nor can they get the for sale price. Nor can they retrieve the land sale list.

Your second point is correct. Even apart from resellers, there are so many people trying to buy land and looking for a bargain at any given time that somebody somewhere is bound to see a cheap plot pretty quickly.

A proxy or bot, however, could do both - it may be that they're using one by now..

LL does frown on using automated systems to find and discover lands. I think you can AR them for doing so. In teh past it was used and LL nerffed the trick and frowns on it heavily. Most likly I attribute it currently to the fact ath there is a heavy BUY market.

It's certainly possible, but cheap land has always gone fast.

Back in the day it was really interesting. Finding the land in search was only the first step. That would get you to a telehub that was near the land for sale, but you still had to fly from the hub to the land.

That was exciting!

Often two or three people would rez at the telehub and begin the mad dash to the land. Buildings would rez in your path, sometimes trapping you. Lag spikes would hit and the green dots behind would start to catch up. By the time you got to the place, your heart was pounding as if you were engaging in some surreal marathon. And in this state of frenzy, you had only a second to decide if you wanted to buy the land.

Then, other times you would get there alone and be lulled into a sense of comfort as you pondered the merits of the land before you. Only to see the color change abruptly and realize that another had snuck in while you were lost in thought.

In those days, buying land really was a game within the game. As exciting as any FPS I've ever played.

No kidding Some days I miss the old idea of using telehubs, ROAM, and just the general "chase" of getting around. Specially after updates (no TPing for DAYS!).

My first account had to do that with newbie land I think part of the current issue with newbie land could be fixed if we forced them to fly to it...through mine fields....in the snow..uphills both ways. That's how it goes right?

No, that was for swooping on public land (which was available cheaply). Scripts can detect if land is public or get the owner, but if they aren't public they can't detect if the land is for sale or not.

The Lindens got rid of the concept of public land, now any abandoned land reverts directly to Linden ownership for (eventual) auction or sale as first land depending on the size.

Therefore, although scripts can still detect public land, none of it actually exists.
