What are the differences between older private islands and the new class five islands? I mean there's a $100 a month tier difference from what I can see, so is it just that new islands run on better hardware, or do they offer better features such as more landscaping capablilities and allowing more av's on the island?

The new islands are run on class 5 servers which handle scripts better etc. than the older class 3 and 4 versions.. i do beleive all the new sims are class 5 and the $100 dollar price difference is due to the new price increase which came into play after jan 1st 2007.

The class 5 servers are equiped with better hardware and can handle much more than the older ones..

I don't think the PI tier increase was directly tied to the hardware class. A class 5 server probably doesn't cost much more than a class 4 did (might even be cheaper) and likely is cheaper to run/maintain.

They did the tier bump was because the market could take it...

So you're really not going to have that much of a selling point for higher tier payments on a class 5 island then? I mean to prospective tenants, they don't really get much of a benefit?

It's hard to guarantee performance anywhere in second life. Sims share servers so if the sim you are sharing a server with is full of laggy scripts, or is full of people all the time, it brings down your own sim performance as well. We've had that happen with ours.

I personally don't see a class 5 server as being an advantage when there are so many things (ie what your neighbours do) that will affect performance.

Except for a small handful, all of the sims bought in the rush after the price increase announcement and before November 15th were class 5 sims at grandfathered tier. That's probably a few hundred of them.
