Getting rid of "weeds"

Having gotten no help from any Lindens or the estate owner where I'm having this issue, I thought I'd turn to my fellow residents. On a particular small section of our land, there appear to be some grass-like weeds growing up out of the ground, protruding through the floor of our building. I would like to get rid of them, but can't even select them by entering Edit mode (Ctrl+3) and dragging a large box around them.

I'm one of the owners of the land (it's group-owned) and there are no objects on the land from anyone who's not supposed to have objects there. Nobody has claimed the weeds, and I can't tell whose they are because I can't select them.

If I had just started building here, I could just set everything that's supposed to be there to group and auto-return everything else. However, not anticipating this issue, I haven't set much of anything to group, so it would be a huge pain to select every prim on the parcel and set its group status appropriately...

Does anyone know where these "weeds" came from, why they can't be selected, and how I can get rid of them?

Thanks!!!

try removing your surface patch and see if you can select them then.

debug menu
select Cntrl+Alt+Shift+D to open the debug menu.
Then select, Client/Rendering/Types/Surface Patch.
This will make the 'ground' disappear enabling you to grab your objects

They most likely belong to one of your neighbors and the center of the prim is on their land.

I had the exact same problem last week. One of my neighbors had "weeds" growing under their house (which was raised slightly above the ground) and apparently didn't have the knowledge and/or courtesy to make sure the weeds were only on his/her property. It was particularly annoying since I had JUST put a lot of effort into creating my garden. Grrr... Fortunately, that neighbor appears to have moved on before I got around to IM'ing them.

Don't forget there is also a "return" choice in the pie selector next level in after "more". But if you can't select the object at all, it probably won't work. I put a weed on my own land on purpose once and then I couldn't delete it. It turned out there was a second weed 5 meters away I didn't know about. And when I deteted that second one, the first one deteted itself at the very same moment.

Sounds like you're talking about Linden grasses, which do come in rather large patches.

I have found it's easier to select them if you turn on "highlight transparent" (which I think is in the World menu). Now all transparent stuff should become a cloudy red and be much easier to select, edit, and delete.

The small patches of Linden grass come as a big clump, spread over a large area, chances are the 'root' of the grass is not on your property.

He mentioned an estate owner, so I assumed it was an object he could delete and was not Linden grass from an adjoining Linden property. The suspense is killing me. I hope the OP updates us soon! :)

I have those too on the fringe area of my DreamLand property.
Guess in my case I'd have to contact DL to do the weeding. :D

Dreamland, eh?

Actually, our land is in Dreamland, in Dubya City. Who should I contact? I've tried a Dreamland CEO, but he didn't seem to know how to help...

[Edited a day later... Oops, I meant Fantasyland, not Dreamland. Close, though!]

Okay, I've investigated your weeds, and it doesn't look good.

They are definitely a patch of Linden grass and fully within your parcel, but they really do seem un-selectable... meaning un-editable and un-deletable too.

I've tested out selecting my own grasses, as well as those of my neighbor. It's a little tricky because they don't get highlighted like normal objects. Still, they do get selected, and you can delete them (well, I can't delete my neighbor's of course). But all the things that work on normal patches of grass just don't work on yours.

I noticed some other oddities, such as a tendency to completely disappear from many angles. I'm starting to think that they are just some weird bug.

If in fact they can't be deleted, the next best thing would be to raise your floor high enough to hide them. Or if that's too much trouble, just put something there to cover it... maybe the base for a statue or an indoor fountain or something?

Another possibility... since this is just flat grassland, do you think the estate owner would let you trade it for another equivalent one without the buggy grass on it? (Yeah, it means rebuilding, which would stink.)

We had that problem on our land, and in the end all we could do is return them in the land options menu. They went away when we did.

If it's really a weird bug or a spurious object and if it's in an Estate ... maybe a server restart or as a measure of last resort, a region rollback, could fix the problem!?
