LL tech massively improved, why the complaining?

Think about it. They managed to bork the whole thing in an hour and forty five minutes yesterday, and not even a new viewer.

A vast improvement on the minimum five hours and new viewer to completely eff up the entire grid.

So why all the complaining?

*the above is obviously sarcasm, so no need to flame that aspect*

I'm sure that they'll improve on that tomorrow afternoon (Friday) with a rolling restart before they go home for the weekend. The restart may take a little longer but the result will be the same.

OF course it's sarcasm how else can you speak of LL.

how LL will deal with current issues:
wait 2-5 days or until Friday evening, then state in blog about issues residents have been wanting answers too
slowly take the usual "suspects" offline to "investigate"
do a rolling restart with an "optional" update to "solve issues"
clock out until Monday
clock in monday to find complaints about residents having perma hair and shoe booty.
post in blog 3 days later regarding PermaHairsshoeBooty issue
wait til Friday.....

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Still feel the need to put my 2 cents in.. (moreso out of frustration)

First of all, they didnt fix any major issues.. they just did some database maintanance.. which im sure is nothing more then a couple of clicks here and there.

Second of all, it took them 12 hours today to get from "detecting" what was wrong to "need more time to fix it" - See the blog about the search.

No improvements there.

I was editing and compiling scripts yesterday every second time I hit SAVE, the asset server was sending me a script asset not found error. But then it would recover and compile the script.

So yes, things are better than they used to be but no we're not quite there yet in terms of where we want the grid stability to be.

Yup, 10/10 for the amazing and very fast screwup. Do you think maybe LL, as we all know love to have competitions, maybe have them between themselfs? Who can break the most amount of stuff, in the fastest time possible, and have absolutely no idea what they actually broke to start off with? Maybe the winner gets a cookie or summin?

Sorry, off topic but this made me laugh. Suddenly the sim I was in sunk, and everyone landed on Eric Lindens head xD

What are the odds that at the close of play on Friday, we will see a brand spanking new post about the latest and greatest uber-feature coming any month now?

We: grid down for UPDATE -> when it's back again everything is broken. The new functions announced earlier don't work, but also TP, profiles, inventory, IM friends lists, etc...

Th: grid working 10% / everybody is unhappy

Fr: grid down for bug fix -> half of the bugs introduced wednesday are half fixed. 5 new bugs added.

Sa: grid works, let's say 20%. It's weekend, a new bug which really screws up everyone is discovered, but of course there is no support or bug fixes from ll...

Su: same as saturday, just a little worse

Mo: same as sunday, a little worse. Still no news from ll

Tu: there is a new blog entry with something like "Wednesady: the grid will be down! we are gonna put a incredible new function in SL: twisted tri-color prim with user defined shaders support".

No, that's usually when they tell us something horrible we don't want to hear, or announce a new change that nobody can get to work or get questions answered about because the Lindens have all gone home.

Lets see... Looking back on the week so far...

Monday:

My password got wiped? For a while my account seemed to be missing and would not even let me change the password. That resolved itself and I now have my account back with a new password.

Tuesday:

Hmmm... No stipend was paid today, maybe it has something to do with the password/account problem yesterday? I am sure the Lindens will get that taken care of quickly.

Wednesday:

Minor downtime for maintenance today. Sysem is back up, except searches are flaky, and the map wil not display most of the time for me. I am starting to hear from customers that they are having problems with scripts, etc. Still no stipend, just a comment that they are aware of it. Oh, and an e-mail from some other company entirely asking me to change my password. Just noticed that my classified ad was billed a day early this week. No stipend, and billing a day in advance for the classifieds.

Thursday:

Yesterdays problems killed off about 80% of my normal sales. Thats ok, I am sure it will come back today. Not looking good now at all, sales down 95%, no searches, no maps, no way to even reply to a customer because I cant locate them under search. Now griefers are attacking people in the area, and guess what, you cant ban them because they are standing on other peoples property so the right click will not work, and you cant add them because the search engine is down too.

Prediction for Friday:

I don't even want to think about it.

-----

Well, at least my stipend finally showed up. Now that just leaves searches, inventory, maps, profiles, and teleports.

I'm by no means an SL apologist but reliability is improved from where it was not so long ago when TPs didn't work, Search didn't work, people were invisible half the time, inventories didn't work. The sad fact, tho, is that it's only against that miserable comparison that the current situation looks good.

There were no brighter week in SL. Everything is super!

The sun is shining, I finally took out my bike and did some rounds. Went to a movie, and did some other stuff too.

Oh, of course I didn't played Second Life since it's craching on me regularly every 10 seconds.

But my First Life seems improoving. That is probably so envious critics could not say about SL players: "Get a life!"

We have one. Especially since right the day before the crash sh!t started to happen, I upgraded to Premium.

Now I enjoy FIRST LIFE for 10USD / month.

Man, if that were the case and I was a Linden, I'd sooooo totally win this competition. My husband complains a lot that I tend to return electronics to their default state: Broke. Of course, since this occurs only when I'm turning them on, I have no clue how I actually manage the deed.

On second thought, if I'm right and I'm actually the embodiment of chaos.. the exact opposite might occur and their system might actually run really, really well. And the techs would take credit for that, to which I'd take offense. (If I'm not, I can't explain how I could run Windows ME for a year without it crashing, but XP dies in like 2 weeks.)

I figure they'll fix it just in time for the new update.. upon which time it will be broke again. You know, it might help the Beta grid if it were the size of the main grid. I'm tired of shopping at JEVN vendors over that that don't work because the server for it's on a sim that doesn't exist in the Beta Universe.
