Leveling land

I own a 1/8 Region retangular plot that slopes. Is there an easy way to level it? The terraform terms, Lower, Smooth, Flatten, seem ambiguous to me. They certainly don't do what the terms suggest. I've spent far too many hours trying to level this land. Yikes. I wsh there was a Revert command to undo all accumulative changes (not just the last one).

Your land will only change +4/-4 meters from its original shape. So if it was sloped, it will never be totally flat or level. I have found the best thing is to select all and raise it as high as possible with the apply to selection button. Then switch to flatten and click apply to all until it won't move anymore.

Land shaping

There are a number of 'tools' available for shaping land. If it's mainland then you can never go more than +/-4M though. Sometimes it's nicer to leave it sloping and build to the slope.
If you'd like a free land editing tool drop me an IM in-world. I can also advise where to get a fully automated tool if you prefer, but they cost.

Avoid the automated tools unless you have someone to vouch for it. You can accomplish the same thing in seconds by hand for free once you've played around a bit.

I agree with making it as high as you can and then flatten. One way for it to appear flat even when it isnt is to use smooth. Flatten it as much as possible and then smooth once or twice (too many times loses the look of flat if one end is far lower than the other).

You might also seriously consider attempting to work in harmony with the existing terraforming, rather than being so intent on destroying it. Like good RL architects often do when faced with a non-level plot of land. Give the house a 'daylight basement", with windows on the downhill side (even if it is a fake one that can't be used). Or use piers or a foundation platform and make a nice elevated deck that gives you a view of what is downhill. Adapt the structures rather than the world you're placing them in.

A bulldozer and steamroller should be the last option... If you really only want to live on a flat plane, there's plenty of flat-as-a-pancake new sims out there to get land on.

...or if it's going to be a problem buy a plot of land that doesn't slope? :)

To revert all your changes, select the entire plot. Select the revert radio button. Click apply to selection repeatedly until the land doesn't change anymore.

Just incase anyone doesn't realize, 'Revert' will return the land to its last 'baked' state. For mainland, this means it's original levels as created by LL. It doesn't just 'revert' the changes you've made, it reverts all changes ever made to it by all previous owners too.

I used it a few times when I had a chunk of mainland, it was interesting to see the original terrain before it was all flattened out.
