Hey all :)

I`m about to recieve my first island soon (keeps hoping) and got stuck with 2 questions wich i couldn`t get answerd.

1. are there any freebie .RAW terrain files available for the public to learn and play with?
2. what happens with island land when deeded to the group?

on #2 the answer is "nothing" as it`s on an estate and not flagged for tier, just double checking

also, if there are freebie raw terrain files available, i`d like to start collecting them and make available in and outworld for free as i`m sure i`m not the first 1 wondering this

nway, thanks :)

Hi Alicia
Welcome to the joy and terror that is owning your own island......

On terrain textures, have you considered editing the existing ones (and there's quite a few) you'll find in your library? You can do a lot with colour..... otherwise I think it might be a case of splashing out on a proper designer. All depends what you want to do with your island of course :)

you might also want to join one or more of the various sim owners' groups....

Islands get delivered real quick now - so have fun! oh and DO NOT tick the "owner makes contribution with deed" box.................

thx for the reply ;)

about the terrain textures in the library i know about for some time now, been using them for aslong as i can remember on grass floor pieces but was wondering about the island elevation texture(raw) to shape it :)

been trying all sort of searches to find 1 to see how it`s built and play with untill i can download the island default raw texture to edit it

the nightmare would hopefully be restricted between me and 2 others lol

great to know not to tick that contribute option as i`d prolly would have done it lmao :P

edit: on the delivery speed, it`s been almost a day from ordering it yesterday afternoon for it to show up as pending this afternoon :D

For raw editing, (and only if you have a mac) look at Backhoe:

http://secondlife.com/devdown/detail.php?pid=00000012

A friend of mine used it to design his island and he had a pretty good time with it.

The stuff in the library another poster suggested are not raw terrain files, they're just flat textures.

Group deeded land on private regions is functionally the same as that on mainland parcels. It does not count against the owner's normal tier for mainland ownership.

Alicia,
I use Backhoe on my Mac. Its super! My partner (on his PC) uses a combination of Terragen, Bailiwick, and Photoshop. (in that order)

There is a sample RAW file here:
http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=288
You can download it and practice.

Note that LAND PARCEL EDIT (Channel 4&5 don't appear to work).

...and as Incanus points out...you'll probably have your island by Monday. :-)
