Does anyone know how long Lindens take to build the road on those new SIM with area carved out for roads?
In other words, do they do it quickly after they sell the new SIM? or do we have to wait for months?

It won't happen right away. Could be months. Could be never. When's the last time anyone saw a new road get put in on one of the protected strips bisecting land?
I think roads as a concept have fallen by the wayside. Perhaps because you can no longer drive a vehicle over a sim border without sinking into an abyss.

From: Zaphod Kotobide Let's see.. One makes them money, one costs them money.. hrmm. hehe not sure how expensive it is to lay a repetitive item such as a road. Also many residents including myself have volunteered to help build the roads, railroads etc just because its fun to do so all they need is an overseer and 2 residents building on each end of the sim and meeting at the middle. Most of the roads etc are overlays and so are the railway tracks as well its not hard and the linden over seer can embellish as needed and some of us residents have our own little embelishments that can be added like umm "roadkill" or whatnot .. just have to wait till one has the time and is available really hehe

If anyone has looked lately, the newer sims rarely ever have a protected roadway on them to even put the prims of a road on. When I first came back to SL I used to actually enjoy flying along the roads to see what things people were building up against them. Now, IF there is a protected roadway, I've seen a lot that will chop off the pieces of land that are against the road to sell in 16m plots. I would rather be able to fly along them again and see what creative use people make of a road, instead of 16m plots lining it with adverts and signs I refuse to even look at.
As for it making them money vs costing them money...I doubt someone buying a sim would pay less because it had a road way in it. People pay more per sqm if the plot runs along a road, than when it doesnt. With that logic, it would increase the value of said sims. I'd like to see future sims with roadways again, and the prim streets on them.

This ain't Los Angeles and there aren't any cars or drivers looking at your ugly rotating signs. Stop wasting your money and hurting our eyes!

There's no point in building the nice roads, people just build ugly crap onto them.

From: Ace Albion There's no point in building the nice roads, people just build ugly crap onto them. I went through a place a while back (didn't landmark it of course!) where there were well laid roads, pavements, shopfronts and even buses running. All these non-road areas with homes, casinos etc just joining end on end without roads is just disorientating. I read a while back about railway stations being alloted to the best designs proposed. A shame there isn't an intersim ground based transport system. Now, if SL had Trainz routes running through!!!

There used to be a road in Quat, which is an older sim. I rather liked it. The whole area is mountainy and watery and rather pleasant and the road made for nice scenery.
It vanished after the last Wednesday update. Guy Linden says they've got it on the list to be fixed.

There's quite a nice road network across various sims by the Stratics Headquarters and sandbox in Rosieri. We have created a 'vehicle rezzing area' right next to the road so you can actually put vehicles out and then drive/ride along the roads.

My house abuts a road and it looks like a nice residential street, lined with trees and lamp posts.

i like roads. they chop up what could be otherwise dull landscape and give some orientation. useless for vehicles but they're nice to walk along.

My land adjoins a future Linden highway which is at present just hummocky grass. I'm pleased it's there as it means I'm unlikely to get boxed in. Being an outdoor type I like to go walkabout in SL and exploring these protected but forgotten corridors is a good way to do so.

I guess all said, LL does not have a real plan to lay those roads. I like the suggestion from some of you about us residents helping the LL to lay those roads.
Honesly, I would pay more for a nice piece of prime land beside an established SIM (with no crab 16sqm ads). These ads kills the price of the land. These are something the new land buyers should look for when they buy the land. Look closely to the road side to see if the seller is trying to cheat you buy carving out a piece of the mainland so he/she can later sell that for even higher price for ad companies.
Anyhow, let's call call the Lindens to allow us to lay the road and make Second Life a better place to be rather than just bunch of green boxes put together.
