the text is normally a ranking which is given by the group you are in, so you can't really edit that text but you can deactivate it or choose to show the ranking from another group. just right click on yourself and choose Groups... and then deactivate or activate another group.

Wearing a different group tag changes the text above your name.

You can create your own group, invite a few friends into it, and create your own group titles. It costs L$100 to create your own group, and you can define ten titles, called roles, I believe. The various roles will have rights assigned to them by the group owner for what the members in that role can and can't do as a function of the group. A group requires two members, at a minimum, to stay active.

For example, I created a group for "Fox and Ground Properties", my land management group. The 'Everyone' group, for all members in any role in my group, displays the tag "F & G Resident". The Owner role, which only I belong to, displays as "F & G Founder". There are other roles as well. I belong to any of the roles for my own group, so I can choose which role title I want to wear.

Ceera, You don't get near the accolades you deserve for answering all the questions you do as well as you do. Cheers.

I thought there was also a freebie thing you can get and wear where you can customize what goes over your head...?

You can get a head attachment (or just a script you can put in one on your head) which displays whatever custom text you want, but it won't be part of your "name bubble" that appears over your head (like everyone else), but in addition to it.

You can do this, but these are hover-text words, not the actual "name" text. they work fine, but they are probably seen as less "official", even though creating a group with a friend and adding a bunch of roles/titles is just as easy.

That is what I did, though. Create a group with a friend, and add a bunch of roles with unique titles. So if I wanted "Mr. Marcus Moreau", I could have that as a separate role. Or if I wanted "Linden CEO Marcus Moreau", I could do that too.

EDIT: And what Talarus said. :)

There is. It's called a 'titler', and when you wear it, the script in the small invisible prim that it attaches to you will create hover text over your head, in addition to whatever your name and group title is. Most titlers also allow you to change the color of the text, as well as what it says.

I have one that I usually set to read "Busy building, please wait...", which I wear if I have to do an intense on-site building contract. Just to let people know I am not intentionally ignoring them.

Yeah, a lot of roleplay/gaming/combat groups use/require titlers that display name, rank, hitpoints, status, and any number of other pieces of information related to that group/area.

I like to use slashes to separate similar yet distinct/varying ideas. kthx
