How many users can be online before things get laggy? I've noticed when the number of useres signed into SL is aout 10,000 thats when things become laggy for me and I experince frequent stalls and crashes, sometimes can't even get in cause the network is down (not the grid itself but the connection to the grid). As i type this out my avi is taking a non-stop walk through a blue viod baceue of the lag.

Hiya,
The total population has very little effect on overall lag. For every 4 sims, there is one server (on average. Some have less based on system performance). Lag is affected by many things, with an extremely large amount of variables. 40 avatars in one place, with no attachments will lag up an area a fair amount. 40 avatars with custom prim-jewlery, prim-armor, prim-cloths, prim-hair, with particle emitters and scripted everything would bring the sim to a crawl. One bad texture can kill lag in the area. A bad build can too. Interpoliation of certain prims has some very bad effects. Texture "flickering" form prims sharing the same plane is very bad on client lag. Scanner scripts, the lightng changes from night/day and day/night are extremely ahrd on some graphics cards. The time when the world population increases is also prim-time for RL. Work getting out and people logging in. While SL does have a lot of lag and issues, I'd suggest looking at your own ISP. How many are on it in your area during these times? It may not be a problem at all, but it one of the things you may be able to correct with a call to your ISP office. If they clear it, it's one thing you cna scratch off the list of what's causing it. ~Jessy _____________________

I often find that the lag starts to appear somewhere around a population level of one.

Medusa was known for freezing people when they looked at her. Well believe it or not, but it was actually lag from all the twisted tori on her head. Ban women! |

I blame women. Ban women! Ban the future creation of male accounts is more like it ![]() ..i would suppose population limit to depend on the sim itself... and the number of live error-ridden scripts munching their way around! ![]() _____________________
