A while back someone emailed me a list of some of the coolest places to visit in SL. Many of those places are now gone but was wondering if someone keeps a list somewhere?
Anyone?

Yeah, there was a thread over the summer about this. It's probably in the archive, but updates couldn't hurt.

An update would be great! Many people are missing out on some of the greatest places to visit- and perhaps donate to- to keep them open. I for one always donate to a great sim.
How do we go about getting an updated list started??

A few more for the list - from one Francesca to another :)

Caledon
Dublin
Serenity Woods
Terminus
Intemptesta Nox
Roma - Ave Caesar (recreation of ancient Rome in Linda sim)
and, if you're interested in building, the Ivory Tower Library of Primitives is a must.

I hear Svarga is to close, so, as Osprey says, go right away.

Go check out Walden and Nakama. They're a couple of my faves.

Riverwalk in Ganymede I think the sim is ... it is quite extensive build, with changing art displays, scuplture, amusements. Their fall art festival was just last week.

Although still very much a work in progress check out Dragon Isle where we are building our own version of Venice. Be sure to tp up into the clocktower (tp is the door to the tower at ground level). The view from both the clock tower and the Rialto bridge at suset is fantastic. I do strongly suggest however you set your draw distance to 256 for best view from the tower.

In the works, sidewalk cafes with wine or expresso, fishing, numerous palazzos free and open to the public to enjoy and working drivable gondolas.

We do apologise for how long this project is taking but we want to do it well. We hope to have it finished in time for Carnival! Do pop by now and then and see whats new. :)

It's the Second Life Parks directory.

Sugar is a simple little island sim but beautifully textured, kind of a Southern swampy place with a sugar mine in the center. ^_^

Neufreistadt is a pretty place too, Germanic town.

For whatever reason I'm spending my evening tonight visiting every sim mentioned in this thread, and placing landmark links to all of them in a notecard so I can hand it out to anyone who wants to know a few places to explore. ^_^ Mind you, I'm not giving myself much time to explore any of these places since I'm trying to get to all of them... I guess I'll have to go back again later!

Lethe and Limbo... which make up the Isle of Wyrms. Excellent place for Dragon-Fantasy themes.

ElvenMyst is a nice fantasy-themed sim.

While I can't verify "up to date", the vast majority of locations currently in the database are still there. The list is organized by parcels however, except in the cases where a region is just one large parcel. At least you get over 800 images of locations to browse before deciding a place to visit!

/ping Pathfinder. Whatever happened to Pathfinder's Picks? His signs are still at welcome areas, but the last time I checked (last month), his list hadn't been updated in ages.

My favourite sims:

Nakama
FuturePerfect
Svarga

Ah yes! Visited that place with friends last week and got asked to leave by a couple of newbies getting married. ;) Fantastic build though. Had great fun getting lost in the castle and dungeons.

That sounds very RUDe by THEM.. Please IM the owner of the sim and tell her about this: Dana Bergson.

I hate this kind of behaviour that spread around more and more in SL.. I get sad.

BUT the place are are worth a visit... ! Still are!

Really nice link, the only suggestion i could give to make it even better is to make names beginning with a special character appear on the bottom of the list. That would stop the honestly disgusting exploit of using special characters to make one's place appear over the others, thus completely defeating the purpose of having an alphabetical listing
