Its pretty simple really. Probably the forums will shut down and we will all go our own way but maybe we can salvage some of this and even show each other some respect and appreciation. So...

why not a mini-conference? On-goign over a set tiem period where we actually intermingle and meet each other's avatars? We lead such separate lives in sl, and such intensely different intentions that it may be worth our while to meet and iron out a few issues to establish a self-sustaining forumic conference every six months or so to hash out issues we need to share.

I can prolly supply land for this conference. It wont be immediate cos in real I am flying and working and havent got ten minutes to spare to really develop this. But we should think it through.

This would not be a party. This would not be a PG only meeting. If you are a child avatar, tough beans, you may hear some 4 letter words. But we may iron out issues without Lindens listening in or standing to the side.

If you dont liek the idea that is fine by me if you do, then maybe we can work something out for soemtime in June. A weekend or a 2 day conflabulation.

Any comments?

LL isn't changing their mind or deviating from the course already planned out.

But by all means exhort to your heart's content.

I dont see what you think you will achieve. If we wanted to meet anyone from the forum we could simply IM them and ask to meet them, couldn't we?
"Iron out a few issues" what issues are these , Issues with LL or with other ppl ?

You mean meet in world? What a novel concept - an in world forum. And there's already a group in place for it which is not, as rumor would have it, really a clique.

I think it's a cool idea except I for one have a really hard time keying my thoughts in world. I do okay one on one - I have done okay with you, Jig I think, though I probably bore you to tears. But when it gets to be several people my head wants to explode.

How would we work out the conversation flow? Or would the fastest typist win?

It would have to be varied and cogent topics to keep my interest and draw me out of recluse mode.

You'll need to gather a list of people who refuse to be in the same region as me. =^-^=

Judging so far by the response its a 50/50 split in terms of interest.
Weston, I dont find you boring. Why would you think that? The peopel I find boring are opinionated boors who place beagles and whores in a category of our own. We would require some rules of communication. I will not use voice here. I wont Skype here either. I have security issues that I must abide by. Perhaps some type of length of reply?
It would have to be June because my schedule is so tight that I can't imagine anything other than hours free until then. And if this is to work at a decent level, with some intention of carving out a philosophy of living here (even for fun) with some plans that we could apply as a small group of caring avatars, then we need teh time to think of what we must say and act upon.
It will probably come to nothing. My own persona - my "mask" - is so much myself in sl and real, I cannot imagine suddenly becoming a respected "speaker" for others here.
I have come to the conclusiuon that being the "Whore of Babylon" means I am hardly an appropriate instiller of values for our growing sense of avatarship in sl. I dont want to lead anything or be influential in this. I simply think peopel may be able to become a positive force in sl without Lindonizing.
Somehow I think they would like us to be more in charge of our own destinies here.
I would welcome more comments but I also understand that this is making sl a more important factor for our computer lives than we may wish.

But isn't this what the Forum Cartel place was all about?

I think it was at one time. I know I dropped in once and there were about 10 there. I recognized a few regular posters but they seemed to be pretty much tied up in the normal silliness that many of us love..........I couldn't get caught up since I really just dropped in on a whim while on my way to a friends place to look at some build he wanted me to see.

Jig's idea is not a bad one in my opinion........it might be lots of fun. :) The problem I see is the six months wait til June. I just don't think out attention span is that long. :)

Thinking, if Jig approves, is that us who are seriously interested friending her so we can get updates on this "in-world shindig". :) Or maybe a group formed for that purpose (I'll volunteer part of the group cost even).

No. It was dead everytime I tried and when I did meet anyone there I was constantly being reminded it was PG and I couldnt swear or talk about anythign vaguely adult in case 45 year old 5 years olds had ear drums perforated by my language.
And that big band and jazz music was grating to my ears. Like sittign next to a washing machine.

Yup....all ya have to do is join the forum cartel group in-world and there's constant chatter among members....and a good amount of social activity and events going on. That's been in place for quite a while now.....and it was announced here upon it's inception many many moons ago. I don't have problem associating with anyone here.....on these forums or in-world. makes no difference to me.....this is an interesting and varied bunch and I rather enjoy everything you guys bring to the table......what I don't agree with, I can at least find some entertainment value in. ;) Ironic that I am such a loner by nature.....but then again, it makes me neutral turf :p I would hope, if we did see the end of the web forums....that we could find a way to maintain a similar venue in-world. Or we do what some i-village friends of mine did a few years ago and jump to another forum based web venue and create our own group forum site to hang out and post in.

True, we could all just start meeting IN world. Amazing how many of you I have never 'met' there.

When things are slow next door if I see a crowd I'll even pop over.

I got the HUD too, and it was empty when I wasn't there.

Well... in a month I'll have a club in SL on adult land, Jig. Its all there just waiting for me to get back to being active again.
(See http://www.avatarsunited.com/avatars/pussycat-catnap/apps/blogs )

I'm surprised they got on you for what you said. I can get outfit, though I thought it was mature land and don't recall seeing any anti-nudity signs.

I'd agree on Jazz / big band somewhat. Sometimes I like that, but mostly I prefer world or reggae or latin.

That's exactly how Blue sees it it too... From https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/blog/2010/02/01/upgrading-the-forums:

More Focus: As part of the transition, we're removing some redundant forums and streamlining others, so you can more easily find the information you're looking for. We want the forums to be about conversations with a purpose; to that end, we're paring down to some of the most focused forums, and letting other conversations continue off-site, or even better: inworld. The forums have become jammed with cruft over the years, and we'll be paring down to a smaller number of top-level forums to make it easier to find the conversations you're looking for.

There is no practical method for asychronous communication inworld. How someone could seriously suggest replacing forum style discussion with inworld discussion escapes me.

Plus of course a lot of forum traffic occurs during work hours, at work, when people should be working, and can't get on Second Life on their work computers with their onboard Intel graphics, firewalls, and bosses peering over at them.

No need to be dissing the place, Jig. Anyone can throw the switch on the juke box and for the most part it plays mainstream rock or pop.

Your hankering for x-rated material seems to get a pretty good workout in other places - the hangout just isn't meant for that. "Mature" doesn't mean naked or rife with four letter words. It's not just five-year olds that find that stuff puerile and tiresome.

That said, there are always plenty of people willing to chat over group chat. This means we get a big bunch chatting without dealing with the lag issue. Again, it's more "mature" than "adult", though.

I agree Suezanne, one big factor is also time zones. One can pop into a forum like this when its suitable for them and leave a comment but in SL that is not possible unless your there at the time it starts.
There are many "forum" style places in SL that hold discussion groups on different topics and they also have issues trying to cater to the different times.

Nothing has stopped us meeting ppl from the forum in SL if we chose to, I have had messages sent to me as ppl have wanted to talk to me in type and voice and that door is always open for anyone
