Griefing by sending mutliple textures to another resident

A friend of mine was griefed yesterday. Another resident, who clearly dislikes her sent her multiple copies of the same photograph.

Her screen filled with these photos which appeared faster than she could discard them.

When she re-logged, she was hit again, and, since she could do nothing else until they were all discarded this effectively prevented her from using Second Life - I consider that a pretty nasty grief.

Would muting the other resident help ?, any other ways she could protect from this ?

I've done that to myself a few times by opening up a box of textures and choosing 'copy contents to inventory'. Why the heck does getting a texture into your inventory involve the automatic opening of a preview window? Someone has probably created a scripted object to hand the victim multiple items... kind of like a greeter bot... a malicious greeter bot.

World -> Set Busy will automatically refuse inventory offers, but it will also hide chat unless you open the history window, and autorespond to IMs with a message you can specify in Edit -> Preferences -> Communication. It makes it hard to communicate but I think you can still get a hold of live help (Help -> Help Request).

Relogging will clear out any windows that are stacked up, and then you can delete all the textures from your inventory at once.

My 3-step plan to dealing with a griefer like this
01-27-2007 13:44
is

1. Walk away from your computer.

Go get a cup of coffee or something. Let the screen fill up with nonsense.

2. Mute the griefer

The Chat History will have an entry like 'Total Jerk gave you xxxxxx'
Copy the name of the griefer to the clipboard. 'Total Jerk' in this case.
From the menu line, choose View then select Mute List
On the Mute List click the Mute Resident... button
Paste in from the clipboard the name of the griefer, click the Find button.
Click on the name and click the Select button.

3. Relog.

And continue with the knowledge that IM's and Inventory will not be received by you from the jerk, sorry, 'griefer' as they like to be known.

One other thing I'd add is to make sure that before relogging, you change your preferences so that your Start Location is your home location, so you don't end up rezzing back in front of the jerk/griefer (assuming you have set a home location, and, you're not getting griefed at home *grin*).

For homeless residents, a good home location for something like this would be an infohub you rarely hang out at.
