Hi, I am having issues with my AV taking 3-4 seconds responding to my keyboard commands. I am on 512mb ram, GeForce FX 5200/AGP/SSE2 grapgics card,Intel Pentium 4 (Unknown model) (3042 MHz), and 2mb broadband. I have followed friends instructions in SL preferences to increase performance, but i seem to still be 3-4 seconds behind with my movements, i clear SL cache regularly. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, sorry to read you're having the problem I used to, annoying isn't it! I used to walk to where I wanted to be, but if I had to stop or change direction it'd take a while to actually do it. Then I upgraded the memory from 704MB to 2Gb & changed the graphics card to an Nvidea GeForce 7600 I think & since then it's been fine. *wait for someone technical to come along though, it could be coincidence i'm in no way technically minded it just worked for me! Could be a coincidence tho* hope you get it sorted quick, i'm sure someone knowledgeable will appear soon!

I think spending $25 for a gig of ram total would help, followed second by spending $60-$80 for a better graphics card (7600 would be excellent choice, hoping you have an AGP/PCIe slot and not just PCI).
But there might be other solutions that don't involve spending money on hardware upgrades. If you DO have an extra $100 to throw at that system though, that's where I would throw it. It's really amazing what those two upgrades would do. (edit: AGP, sorry I missed that. If you DO want to upgrade memory + graphics, here's a nice little $76 card, 7600GS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127219 ) |
