Hi all, im not sure if "Listeners' is the word for these but- you know those objects that relay the chat of so and so in range back to you? Are those against the tos here in SL or are they just frowned upon?
Im not trying to bring copybot up more but, doesnt the person controlling the bot have to g ive the bot commands via open chat?
So, couldnt we set up chat relays in our shops to see who is using copybot in our stores and we can notify eachother to ban those folks from our lands?

(and yes Listeners is the correct term).
Im not trying to bring copybot up more but, doesnt the person controlling the bot have to give the bot commands via open chat? It depends on how the bot is programed but generally speeking yes.
So, couldnt we set up chat relays in our shops to see who is using copybot in our stores and we can notify eachother to ban those folks from our lands? That would be against the TOS without notifying your customers that their chat was being recorded/monitored. That would only deter them from using the bot in the store it doesn't solve the root of the problem

I have made use of these Chat Relays in a Form of Temple, for effect, anything said within Normal Chat distance was IMed to me by the unit, and through a special Device i could respond in chat to any standing within hearing range. I must note here however that i DID post warnings around the periphery that anything said within the field WAS IMed to a different location.
Anyone reluctant to have thier voice relayed, had Full Knowledge that the device was present and active, and had the Option of Leaving the area.

From: Jesseaitui Petion So if I put a sign in my shop saying theres chat relayers cause of copybot- thats allowed? Exactly What use a Listener could be against Copybot, i have No idea, However, I believe that if you post signage, Giving people fair warning that they are being Monitored, it would not count as any kind of TOS violation. One point however, Listeners Listen in Exactly the way You do, that is, everything said within that 20 or 30 meter circle is relayed. IF a Portion of that Circle happens to fall onto land that is NOT YOURS, All the signs in the world do NOT prevent that from being a TOS Violation, You are Invading the Privacy of someone elses property, and they CAN AR you, so Make sure the Listening fiels remains solely within land either owned, or controlled by You. From: Angelique LaFollette Exactly What use a Listener could be against Copybot, . This is what I thought- Lets say I had copybot and wanted to copy somethig. First i need an alt so I can log it in as the copybot. Then i have to push it around to the thing I want copied. Then i have to type to it in open chat the commands. Thats what ive been told anyway. so in that case the chat relay would be logging all the chat and if I saw the commands to a copybot i would have the theives name

Most people would just go to the store, buy stuff, then return home or where ever and fire up their copybot.
