There is a "machinima" forum further down the list where you'll likely get a LOT of help with this. My limited understanding is that most folks who are serious about the craft don't use the built in capture tool, they use various 3rd party applications.. but don't ask me, ask them!

I think the built in movie taking function doesn't work at all for most folks. I did have it working at one time. It doesn't work for me now. When it did work, it worked real bad.
An easy way to get started taking taking short clips is to get FRAPS. The free FRAPS program takes short clips and puts a message on the clips, but's it fine to get started with. Taking the clips with FRAPS is easy, but FRAPS files are huge, because FRAPS doesn't compress the files while it's doing a capture. Figuring out the best method of converting the FRAPS files to the optimum filetype for uploading to Google Video or YouTube or whatnot has eluded me; I can convert them for uploading using several different programs, each of which has multiple formats to choose from, but I don't end up knowing if I might have been able to make a file that would look 98 percent as good but take up ten percent as much space and would thus upload in a fraction of the time my uploads for my few little clips have taken. Uploading took hours - long enough to think it had failed several times, long enough to be a problem if your computer's bogging down and you want to restart it. _____________________
