Is there a guidebook for obtaining "First Land"?

Since this is a one-shot opportunity, I'd like to not mess it up. I've got my $1000 signing bonus for getting a premium account, and now I'd like to have a place to put my house. I understand that my first purchase of 512 m2 costs L$512.

I'd like it to be in a PG neighborhood, with access to a public road or whatever. (I heard that sometimes people get a parcel completely surrounded by others who won't let anyone onto their land, thus effectively isolating the central parcel.)

Where can I find out what kinds of areas are available?

Use the search feature, and visit the First Land parcels that are available. It changes minute to minute. If you find something that you really like, buy it, because if you wait, someone else will buy it before you get a chance to return.

I'll warn you though, PG land is harder to re-sell at a decent price. SL is an adult's game, and most adults seem to want Mature-rated land.

Do you think PG land is really that less saleable? There is a lot less of it. The reason I ask is because I'm just about to extend my 2000 sq m parcel into a 6000 sq m one by buying my neighbour's land. It's in a PG sim, although a very pleasant one. Now my finger hovers uncertainly over the 'buy' button.

On the orginal question regarding first land, you might be disappointed by the lack of choice. When I bought mine a couple of months ago there were about five parcels and I picked mine because it was near a road and flat - as good as it got. None were actually roadside. I believe there is less choice now, with long periods (days) without any available. But don't think of it as final. I sold mine a week after buying for l$3000. If you are willing to put a bit more cash towards a better parcel I'd recommend you do the same. I doubt you'll get what you're looking for in first land.

You find first land by going to search, choosing 'Land Sales' and entering 512 in both boxes. If you're lucky you might get some results!

A few notes:

While in general PG land has a lower resale value than Mature land, that can be impacted by a host of other factors, such as sim lag, coast line, amount of land left in sim, terraforming limits, and percieved value of the sim. If you want an idea of what land in a sim goes for, look at other land for sale in that sim. (If there is no other land for sale in that sim, ask a minimum of 10L$/m2.)

The easiest way to search for First Land is to use the pull down menu on the "Land" tab of the "Search" window, and select "First Land" as an option.

Hi Carl, there is a parcel of the same size, 4000 sq m, on the other side of me for l$50000. It has been on for a couple weeks without selling, however. Both that and the one I'm buying are waterfront. As I was friends with the neighbour I have persuaded him to reduce the price for his from l$40000 to l$35000. There is a parcel behind, not waterfront, on for almost l$10 per sq m. That has been on for a couple of weeks though, also. From my land searches I think this is as good as it gets for the price, but I hadn't really factored in the PG issue.

I'm in Mesede incidentally, which is very low lag compared to my other land.

To answer the question, if you do a search for 512m parcels in the land search I think there is some kind of indication that the land is 'first land'.

Or, you may find another resident selling 512m for $L 512, it does happen! Some people would prefer a lifetime of low stress and health over making coffee money in a video game. :)

There may not be any first land right now; it tends to get snapped up and then the Company tries to release some more when they can; sometimes there are a few weeks of dry spell.

I haven't seen a guidebook, but NCI offers an excellent class every Sunday on buying land, including First Land.

There has been a lot of dry spell in the recent past. LL has stated that they had a temporary shortage of servers that affected delivery of First Land, as well as private islands; it has been resolved now, so the supply should return to normal.

The only other hint I can offer is don't go looking for First Land on Monday. There usually isn't much to be had, because it gets bought over the weekend.

I hate to see all the red lines too, but it doesn't really prevent access to your parcel if you're surrounded by such properties. You can teleport in and out, and you can allow your friends to create landmarks on your parcel so they can do the same.

There is another, even simpler, way that allows anyone to reach your parcel, with or without a landmark or a tp from someone already on the land. Start flying and then go straight up (page up). At a certain height (not sure, may be 100m) you'll see the red lines disappear and you can fly over all the banned parcels without a problem.

Good luck with finding your First Land. 1000 $L - wow! I think I got 250. LOL
