I'm writing to get some recommendations for land and personal security protection from griefers. Since I know almost nothing about scripting in Second Life, I feel I have no way to evaluate the many security products that I have seen. The security in question would also need to comply with a particular land covenant. The covenant prohibits security fences which would hamper people flying over the island. The covenant also prohibits any security that would burden neighbors. Thanks in advance.

Do you really need one if you live on an island? On the rare occassion you get them, you can use the land tools to eject and ban. Auto return will prevent anyone littering your property while you aren't there.
If I really wanted one, I would ask the island owner to recommend one that would comply with the covenant, at least that way you wont end up breaking it.

From the looks of that covenant, you would be allowed to use a security orb to protect a skybox, provided you don't set it up with an overly large range, and you would have to clear the device and configuration with the sim owners (lieted in that Covenant). Send one of them an IM and ask if the Psyke's Security Orb is acceptable to them, or if the Banlink security orb is acceptable. Psyke's works well, and is pretty easy to configure. The Banlink system is free. A little tougher to set up and manage, but it works well too.

To comply with what you posted here, simply make sure your Psyke orb, or whatever you choose, has the "foreign land safe" option turned on. This will protect your neighbors from getting attacked.
My own Psyke orb, i set it to only cover the interior of the building (15 x 15). This lets people fly over without any problems, walk thru my land without a problem, stop and admire my landscaping, whatever they want so long as they stay out of my locked home. If they violate the locked door and force their way in, they get a 6 second warning (more than fair since they broke in when the door was locked, and leaving the same way takes 2 seconds) to leave and are then sent "home" if they don't leave.
Despite what a few people would like to believe, this is not a violation of TOS. But it might be a violation of your land covenant and/or deed restrictions. I once lived in Dreamland (and i loved it there), and different Dreamland Angels interpreted the deed restrictions differently; to some TP home was not permitted while to others it was. So to be safe there, i used "eject". You should check with more than 1 person in your community's support staff. If even 1 says no, it's better to be safe than sorry and downgrade your security.

Teleport home

I don't own any land, but I'll tell you this - I've gone places I knew I wasn't supposed to be, and got teleported home.
Guess what? No broken bones, no bloody nose. You give, you get. If I walk into your place, you can throw me out any way you want. It's just a frickin' game, I don't take it that seriously.
