From: Austin Zeddmore many popular first names are all taken allready. When will there be new names to choose from? I'm pretty sure the supply of first names is unlimited, curbed only by your imagination and the choice of last names with which it can be combined.

From: Beebo Brink I'm pretty sure the supply of first names is unlimited, curbed only by your imagination and the choice of last names with which it can be combined. But if you want the a name like Jake, Sam, John, etc, good luck. Those names get taken really quickly. I am not sure how often they release new last names any more. It used to be every last name got 150 accounts, but I don't think that is the case anymore.

Linden Lab has a lottery where Lindens can contribute last names, and every so often names are picked at random. Or was this how sims got named? I kinda forget.
