Perhaps because my real life girlfriend is with me on SL a while ago I changed my name to Andrew and today I took the final step changing my appearance as close as I can get to my own. Being 44 and my girlfriend being a lot younger than me no problems for her with skins etc but I am now back to "newbie" hair and beard which is where I have a problem.

I am a slaphead, the sunshines from the top of my head ie the top of my head is hairless and as expected I am living with Linden hair. My hair is short too so I can live with the hair. I'm a bit stuck on my beard though. Whatever I do it is a fairly light brown but I need dark brown almost black like my rl/sl hair. The beard also looks like it has been attacted by a Linden with a very old and tatty paintbrush.

Can anyone recommend a good designer that I could pay for a custom hair and beard set. I don't care about the cost anything to get rid of that brown paint on my chin. I have seen a couple around in shops that would do it I just wondered what your experiences are? Any designer better than another perhaps?

Thanks,

Andrew

If you look around shops that have products you think are good quality, IM owners to ask about custom work. Many probably will- for the right price, of course.

Look for a skin with the facial hair you want. Unless you have a big puffy beard, in which case, happy hunting -- no doubt they're out there.

Andrew, you are such a typical guy - lol. If you take the time to shop, you will find many options that will work well in sl, but you have to SHOP!

Calico Creations have very nice prim beards/moustaches, in about 20 colours. Worth looking at. I love mine nearly as much as my RL beard.

Big puffy beard!

Someone ought to make it!

In fact, someone ought to go entirely into the business of "non-cool" hairstyles. Beehives, curlers (someone was on a hunt for those not too long ago), men's parted in the middle and slicked down at the sides 20's hairstyle (complete with little curly mustache), what else is there?

Now those would be FUN for people to play around with!

Oh, is that why there are so many women on the grid -- shopping! I thought it was something else ... ;)

Cocoanut, when I finished building my first prim hair, I showed it to a woman and she shouted "70s HAIR!!" and ROFLHAO. I think it qualifies as non-cool. Let me know if you'd like a free copy (I distributed all my prim hairs for free, newbie help).

I second Calico Creations for prim beards, but if you want prim hair, Mystikal Hair Designs has both a combover style and one that's bald across the top. :D

Thanks for the help everyone.

I did shop .. a lot. A few hours. Lots of hair out there and I did see two places offering custom skins one was $L8000 so I was sure sutom hair was out there so thanks for the suggestions. I have seen a beard a while ago but don't know where. I will go now to the place you mentioned.

By the way its trimmed short and no I don't comb over the top :D

Baldie demo in pocket. I think I read that you need beard and hair together but I'll give it a try. I tried Calico but nothing there today. The quest for a baldie with a beard continues.

Hmmm, I didn't see the prim facial hair in her store either, although I've seen it in the past. It's on her blog here, so you might IM and ask about it if you're interested.

Glad to hear about your lack of combover, though. ;)

I offer a new service that will probably get you the results you want. It's not cheap! The example shown required custom facial hair to be inserted into the client side character folder to overwrite the default beard texture. The rest of the example is just a simple skin texture applied to the head.

That is really cool and you are right it is not cheap. But I have no clue what even goes into skin creation. It is all magic to me. :)

I know it's not cheap, especially for individuals that will only make pesonal use of the service, but I do grant the end user a limited license to resell the texture as long as it is embedded in a body part (skin file) with credit given to Second Skin Labs for creating the original head texture(s). That means it's perfectly ok to embed it with other sets of legally obtained or self created full body skin textures and sell the skin file (with proper credits) as ones own. If one ever decides to abandon the look, this is a good way to recover the initial cost, and likely make a profit over time through selling multiple copies of a derivative work.

It also just occured to me that this thread should probably be in the products wanted section considering the needs of the OP. Sorry for posting out of context.

An amazing service you have going there Tristan. I'll think it over although I confess I was a little more interested in transforming the beard from "paint" to something that looks a bit more like hair than bothering with the full makeover. Not having much hair and what I do have is short makes that bit almost acceptable. What began as a shopping query might become move to the request Forum I'll see how it goes first.

Thanks,

Andrew

As much as I wish I was that talented, it was actually Namssor with the business. :D
