Is there a way at all to get back to the help island?
I was on there this evening still learning and getting used to the mechanics and then suddenly got a message that the "sim" was terminating or something to that effect. The client logged off and closed on me and when I logged back on I was in some Korean area. I didn't choose to be out in the main area yet and I want back on the help island so I can finish checking out the creation tutorials there and get a bit more used to the interface.
Thanks for you're help.

Short Answer, No. Once you are Off help Island you Cannot get back.
Look for one of the newbie resource Centres like "The Shelter" (Just type it into Search) and go there, Several of the SL mentors from the Island also take time Volenteering at these Centres and they can help you with Any of your questions or training needs.

You dont really learn too much on help island... you learn to pick up a beach ball, and a bit about your appearance, and how to move and fly.
If you really need to see help island again, just sign up again with a new avatar.

If you really need to see help island again, just sign up again with a new avatar. You are thinking of Orientation Island D.D. Help Island is a Hub Island in the Centre of up to Four Orientation Islands. Help island is Populated by Lindens, Live Helpers and SL Mentors who continue to train up new people until they are comfortable enough to move to the Main Grid. Angel.

Liaisons can teleport people who were involuntarily kicked out of Help Island back to Help Island.
I know of at least one occasion in which Robin Linden took care of this for a displaced new resident.

There are two methods I use to contact an online liaison.
One, use the Help menu at the top of the SL screen, then do Live Help. Start the message with something like "Attention Liaison: " when you want to reach the company liaison monitoring the channel. Be patient, sometimes they are busy, and today when I wanted one, the chat lag was so great I didn't even see my own messages appear for a long time, much less a response.
The other way to contact an online Liaison is to use the Search dialog, People tab, put in Linden as the search term with the online box checked, when the results are returned, check their group list to make sure they are in the Liaison group. This way is more awkward but lets you pick out a particular person - you might have a preference once you contact enough of them over time.
For contacting Linden staff by function via email, there are email addresses like support@secondlife.com and groups@secondlife.com and such. To contact a particular individual Linden staffer, send email to Their-First-Name@lindenlab.com. Example, torley@lindenlab.com . The functional email addresses are @secondlife.com, the personal email addresses go to @lindenlab.com.

I have just become aware that there is now not only a "Orientation Island Public" sim, there is also a "Help Island Public" sim, both a bit northest of the Waterhead welcome area, that anyone can go to.
Heh, I see now there are at least 9 of the limited access Help Islands. Last thing I knew there were 4. Only 6 of them show in the map list, but there are nine that I saw on the map.

I'm sooo confused
10-26-2006 11:10
I arrived in-world just a few days ago and was wandering around Help Island when a RL friend who is a long-time in-world resident teleported me to his island for a tour.
After re-entry to SL (and finding myself in the island hot tub where we had last been talking) I was able to get back to Help Island. I must have clicked Home or Help Island, dunno, but I was relieved to get back there because I still have a lot of skills to learn.
Everyone keeps saying that once you leave, you can't go back. So how come I was able to return?
I've gotten more invitations to re-visit the island and I'm afraid to take them because I don't want to lose access to Help island (especially since I haven't been shopping in the freebie store yet!).

Regan, which Help Island are you on? The normal Help Islands, not in the main grid, have numbers to distinguish one from another.
It is certainly possible there is a bug involved.
The freebie store in Help Island is a drop in the bucket compared to the vast ocean of free goods available elsewhere.

Actually now anyone can go back to Help Island. There is now Help Island Public, accessable to the west of the existing Orientation Island Public. If you join SL with friends but get seperated in different HI's, you can now exit to the mainland, and then meet back at Help Island Public to continue together. The only trick is that H.I.P. is a busy place, sometimes you cannot get in because the sim becomes full. Keep trying! We're working on getting a reliable Mentor presense on the island at peak times. If you want to visit H.I.P., here's the way to do it. 1. Log into SL. 2. Click the MAP button, on the bottom button row. 3. On the map screen there's three fields for entering in text/pulling down menus. On the one beside the SEARCH button, type in "Help" (without the quotes) 4. Hit enter. At the field under the Search button, 'Help Island Public' should be displayed. 5. Doubleclick that, and you should be taken to the Hub at H.I. Public! 6. That's it, you're there.

Heh, that happened to me too. I was on Help Island 3 and having spent a couple of days there I was ready for the mainland. I TP'd to the mainland and spent hours and hours looking around and picking up free stuff (I have so much free stuff now, I'm going to have to start deleting things - and I keep my inventory organised!). But when I logged back in, I was back on Help Island 3. Luckily, that hasn't happened since and I usually appear at my last location when I log in. I presume it was just a bug. It would suck though to be forced to the mainland before you're ready - definitely go to Help Island Public as people have suggested.
