Where can I find LL's rules for Supply Linden sales? I just realized that LL sold almost DOUBLE the amount of $L's than was injected through stipends in February. I am just wondering if they are breaking their own rules by doing this and if so is it harming the economy?

http://secondlife.com/whatis/economy_stats.php

That gap between the sourses and sinks would be significantly lower if LL had not sold a penny....

Are their sales doing their job? Are they keeping the $L stable? I don't buy $L's so I don't know.

Also interesting...in March there was $0L in parcel directory fees? Where is April?

LL UPDATE THE ECONOMIC STATS PAGE PLEASE!!

I suppose the hundred million or so $L's from stipends is pennies compared to the demand that a few million free accounts would have for buying $L's.

Interesting - so the value of the Linden would have gone up otherwise?

This is somehow bad?

The "issue," if any, is that LL is intervening in the free market.

Frankly, I don't think too many people have a problem with this. With a stable L$, it's easy to forecast and plan and compare land prices from 6 months ago to today and stuff like that. We all want to spend and earn L$, and somebody has to print it and circulate it; giving it to those willing to pay cash seems like a good idea. It also has the effect of putting money into LL's coffers, and again I don't think those of us who enjoy and appreciate SL have a problem with that. If anything, the current practice is inflationary--we might otherwise be seeing land going for much less per square meter, but priced about the same in US$.

At some future point, it may be that SL hits a saturation point and numbers begin to decline. At such a time, I can't imagine LL being so willing to buy L$ just to keep the value stable; people might complain then, when their fortune in L$ is worth much less than they had planned. But I'm not sure we'll ever get to such a point; we may first shift away from a special Linden currency, for example, or numbers may plateau but not decline. If we compare SL with the WWW, imagine trying to predict when the Internet will start declining in popularity.
