The thought occurred to me that it might be fun, say over the holidays, to do a grid-wide treasure hunt. It would require a group of people to organize, because of estate permissions.
It would start with a clue posted on this web site, in the manner of a cryptic crossword. It might read, for instance:
TV for mothers-to-be in Hell.
What does this mean? Well first, you would decode "Hell" as referring to some sim with a name synonymous with Hell, of which there are several. Eventually you would visit Abydos and find a shop selling maternity wear. Searching the shop you find an innocuous-looking TV set. Click on it, and it gives you a notecard with the next clue. Which would take you somewhere else on the grid to find another object. And so on.
Good design would mean that you would have little or no chance of finding a clue-giving item unless you were looking for it. But in this case it would need the co-operation of the owner of the shop to place the item for the duration of the game.
The final clue would point to the location of the treasure.
Does this sound like a fun idea?

I know of a lot of single-sim treasure hunts usually just searching for a specific item with no clues. I actually organized and had a treasure hunt with clues just on a single sim again. We had a lot of people show up and very few to finish. But it's definitely worth a try. I'd recommend having multiple clues on a handful of sims though. Otherwise it might become overwhelming.

I'm only a newbie and I'm on GMT so I might be around at odd times for the majority, but I'd like to help if I could? Failing that I'd love to take part.

I did a tulip hunt once, and people seemed to *really* like it. The idea was that I'd never make any more tulips (and I haven't) - thus creating a rare item. Here's what happened: /130/fc/88583/1.html

I can't remember the name, but I saw the place in Chadrick Linden's picks... started with an N. It's a sim wide treasure hunt with interactive clues.

I saw a commercial for an above-ground pool. It was thirty seconds long. You know why? Because that's the maximum amount of time you can depict yourself having fun in an above-ground pool - M.H.
You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later. - M.H.

Dearly Darling,
I got a big shock going to a sim for a kennel building contest and TPed into a horrid cell with blood smears all over the walls and SMBD pictures every where. I left and never got to the contest. You'd have to make it clear that where ever the clues lead folks to need to be in non-graphic areas. I love finding things..I'm not very good mind you; but I don't want to go through nasty muck to do it.
Ever Yours,

I thought about doing something similar but it would involved the entire Second Life and specific locations with groups but because its so hard to do anything especially without the search working, being new and finding people who want to do some orginal events that don't involve camping, giving someone money, etc not sure how it would happen or even do events.

I had a similar Plan some months ago, but it was to be contained within One sim, and Included Puzzles at the Indicated Locations as well as the Riddle Clues, also a Multitude of small Give-away prizes along the way to keep people Interested.
The NeverLand Build Last Year had a wonderful Cops and Robber game that had Robbers on a treasure hunt of sorts, and Cops wandering about with Flashlights that would Nullify the Robbers progress to date, and they would have to begin again from Square One.
Good idea, and i might like to play between helpings of RL Turkey, ad stuffing.
Angel.

I just posted a classified to get retailers in on a Holiday scavenger hunt. The 'guide' will be a book of ads from advertisers. The book comes with one cluegiver. The cluegiver is a reference to one of the retailers in the book. Once they find the correct retailer - they drag the cluegiver into a device at the retailer's store, answer a question and get a prize from the retailer and the next clue.
The scripter guys say its real easy to do - so we are going to launch it on December 20th.
