Has anyone had their SL text suddenly go squished and hard to read. I mean text anywhere in screen, chat, profiles. etc. Maybe not every letter of every word.. but in general. I have it on the standard viewer, the RC and the latest WL. Both in windowed and full-screen.
I deinstalled all the SL versions completely, including the main cache, the profile info under App.Data, cleaned out the registry, did a clean install.. logged on a fresh install of SL and the text is still squished.
Its as if its the wrong font... any suggestions please?
TIA
Lynda

Text size is an option somewhere in edit>preferences. Could it have gotten set to small?

Lynda Hi Lynda, im not entirely sure but could it be the preferences in the graphics tab have changed. It could be that the UI Size is set too small and the display ratio is too small too edit(at the top)>preferences(at the bottom)> graphics UI size default is 1.0 i run my display resolution in a window with a fullscreen aspect ratio of 4:3 for a 17" monitor. hope that helps

Is it the problem where the W in the World menu option is particularly distorted - as well as H in Help, the E in Edit, the V in Viewer?
I've had that problem for months, in multiple versions of different clients.

Hi.. thats EXACTLY the problem... AND I think i fixed it... I think. My ATI9800Pro card ( on Win XP Pro PC) was running CAT 8.1 .. I went back to CAT 7.11. I also had the problem on CAT 7.12 so had assumed it wasnt CAT driver related. But... at the same time... I also changed one thing in prefs (jogged by an earlier post in this thread ty) I changed my SL screen size from 800x600 (4:3) to 1024x768(4:3). Bearing in mind this was a clean re-install of the latest WL viewer, so all other settings were defaulted by the install (i think). Sorry Im not a techie type. I can now happily run SL in windowed mode.. as I have always did for SL (I prefer it to full-screen) before any of this text corruption thing. ALSO.. and I admit a couple of hours play might be too early to tell..... apart from failed TPs where SL logs me out... I have not crashed once.... yet until I did the above I was crashing out ever few mins on SL whether on WL, the RC or standard SL viewer. Lots of variables I know... but thought I would report back before i dissapear to bed WIll try more tomorrow.

I just spent well over an hour installing the just release yesterday ATI drivers.
It didn't help.
Why does it take so long? Have to remove and reboot, reinstall, re-register, restart to reinstall steam, steam was getting installed in the background unseen and the restart interrupted an unfinished process, at least 3 restarts in the process maybe 4. Maybe 5. I was not pleased and not counting too clearly.
The ATI dialogs are partially in Chinese - but not like they are doing a bilingual installation, like part of is displayed in the wrong character set, because there are two versions of each piece of txt.
After all the BS and re-registering , finally start up SL.
Same freakin' problem with the E, V, W, etc.
Now I remember why I stopped working on this problem. Trying to fix it is more annoying than the problem is.
And why the heck do I have to identify my product to ATI - why can't it read the hardware and give me a list of what I have? It's it a better position to know if I have a Radeon X800 Series or a Radeon X800 XL PCI-E 256 Megs
It is a PCI-E, and it is a 256 Meg card - but what about the XL? What's the difference between an XL and an XT?
It just installed the software to match the hardware - it should know what the hardware is.
Pardon my tirade.

I uninstalled Cat 8.2, and installed 7.11, just the driver, not the Control Center. I also uninstalled something called Multi-Res, which may have been around from a previous installation of the Omega drivers.
At present, the Release Candidate is displaying the menu text correctly.
So if you have this problem you might want to try 7.11 first instead of seeing if 8.2 would fix it like I tried.

LOL ... I think it was bad grammar in my previous post.. but thats what I think fixed it for me too.... going back to CAT 7.11 !!!
That AND/OR moving from 800x600 to 1024x768 in the SL Prefs.
Sorry for the confusion.
