Second Life seems to run slowly for me. Not only that, but it takes FOREVER for things to rez, and my loss of packets bar is always in the red (that's the one on the right, right?). What can I do to speed up Second Life? I've looked at some guides, but they aren't very helpful.
My computer's info: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M Processor 1400MHz 597 MHz. 1.00 GM of RAM
I use wireless high speed internet.
Also, my download speed is 316kps, and my upload speed is 733kps.

What kind of wireless internet?
SL is said to have more problems with wireless networked computers than with wired networking. The way you phrased your description suggests that you might have truly wireless internet rather than cable or DSL with a wireless network.
Having a lower download speed than upload speed seems unusual to me, suggesting that something may be wrong with the figures or wrong elsewhere to explain the figures.
That download speed is pretty low. What do you have your maximum bandwidth set to in the Preferences Network tab, what's your cache size set to?
What's your draw distance set to?

Hey Mattheous, where did you acquire your speeds from? I'd be curious if you've perhaps tried a test from someplace like: http://speedtest.net/

What's your draw distance set to? I have cable internet with wireless networking. At least, I think that's what it is. Is wireless networking when you have something send out a signal with internet, but it's hard wired to the hub that sends it out? Max bandwidth: 300 kps Cache: 200 kps Draw: 64 Any way that I can help Second Life run more quickly without having to buy anything would really, really help. I got my speeds from http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/. Should I use Speedtest.net?

If I recall, speakeasy owns speedtest.net, so you'd get the same results I imagine.... Like SuezanneC said though, I have also never seen a lower D/L rate over an U/L rate, that tells me something is awry there. If you are on a "typical" cable modem set-up, the U/L rate is pretty standard, and your D/L rate should usually be in excess of 4mb (4069kb), not in the hundreds... My cable is for example per speedtest.net right now at 19,942kb/s down and 2373kb/s up off of ComCast. If you use wireless.. Your computer itself would have no cabling of any type from it, to you router/gateway/hub/modem.... Your router/gateway/hub may indeed be wired or cabled to your modem if they are two separate devices. I have heard and seen first hand where wireless networking can cause allot of havoc with SL due to packet loss, esp on days where there is perhaps allot of interference from outside sources (cell phones, other wireless networks in the area, solar anomalies etc). Did this just suddenly start occurring, or has it always been?

I just did a ninja edit of my last post, sorry.... I wanted to give you a comparison as an after thought... What kind of ping times do you see to the SL regions you are in? You can see this by hitting ctrl-shift-1 and you'll see ping sim and ping user (from inside the SL viewer).... Do you know how to run tracert's and ping tests from command line? On the speetest site, what kind of latency do you have in ms to the server you selected and what is it's distance from you?

Do I need to do pings in SL now, too?

Which pings do you want? User or sim?
