A few Questions about Private Island Ownership

Hoping that some of the Island owners can answer a couple questions I have...

I know that when one purchases a private island, they bill the $1675 immediately, but I couldn't find info on when then $295/month kicks in. Is that also immediate? Or does it start when the island is delivered?

When purchasing an island, does it come with 'instructions', or a users guide, or some documentation, as to how to go about setting it up, setting the various estate and parcel info, et cetera?

Finally, should one eventually decide they wish to sell the island, is there a 'Linden Labs-approved' method of transfering island ownership? Does the island even have an inherent value, the way mainland parcels do, in that they can be bought and sold? Or if the island owner no longer wants/requires it, does Linden Labs simply 'reposess' or 'delete' it? (It occurs to me I haven't seen, or haven't found, a listing of 'used islands' for sale...)

Thanks!

You are billed for the 1675 immediately upon order. The $295 starts 1 month following delivery of your island. So, if you receive your island March 15th, April 15th you will get billed the $295.

Yes. If its your first island they will send you info cards. If you dont get them, IM me in game. I think I still have mine somewhere :)

You may resell your island to anyone you want at any time for any amount. There is an FAQ on how to sell your island, but generally: Get paid. Send email to the concierge, buyer sends email to concierge too, couple days later, you dont own the island anymore. But do your self a big favor. Get paid first. Once the emails go, you basically have given up your island. :)

There is also a very helpful PDF that you should be sent when the the notice of island delivery arrives. I can't find it anywhere for download on the SL website, but if they don't send it you can ask for it by name:
GuidetoPrivateIslands.pdf any concierge should be able to send it to you. The PDF goes over all the settings, telehub, etc....

Thanks Isablan - in fact the pdf was provided by another kind avatar via private message.

Now I just need to figure out if I can work with 'raw' files, and I think I'm all set.

Apologies for the double-post. I have read the estate guide and the articles in the knowledge base and just have two final questions.

Covenants -- can parcels within an island have different covenants, or is it one covenant for the entire island?

RAW terrain files -- are there any software packages that can edit them, outside of Photoshop? Freeware / shareware etc? I have tried Gimp, and a few other graphics / image programs, but they doesn't recognize the RAW file format.
(I'm on a Mac, which might complicate things further...)

Thanks again!

I believe there's a package for the Mac called Backhoe. I'm not a Mac user so I can't vouch for it, but I happened to notice it earlier. Hope it helps!

I think it is one covenants for the whole island.

Actually on mac you life would be much easier with "Backhoe"!

Thanks Jack!

OMG Backhoe is .... amazing!! I never even considered there might be something purpose-built for editing terrain files but this program is the bomb!

notecards? pdfs? I heard even someone gets an email saying when tier gets taken off?

Craziness, all I got was an email saying "hey you, your island is there now" and money disappears every month after.
