I am curious, if anyone knows:

How many mainland sims?

How many island sims?

This is about six weeks old. Not sure if there are newer stats up yet.

~3500 sims as of December 12th, 2006. I think the ratio of islands to mainland sims is about 50/50.

If you click on the data on the SL homepage where it says the current number of residents, those logged in the last 60 days etc, it says there's 3800 Private Islands. I'm sure that's not exact with islands being added all the time, but a fair guess would probably be 4000 Private Islands. I'm not sure on mainland sims, it doesn't seem this information is directly available. Looking at the amount of square meters auctioned off in the last month, as well as sales by residents, I'd ballpark it at probably 2000 mainland sims, but that's just a guess -- putting you at 6000 sims.

Hopefully someone has more accurate data than me on mainland sims

Whatever te number of sims was, it has gone up in the last few days as a large area has been added to the southern 'mainland' landmass!
