A while ago I became an affiliate of a survey scheme. For various reasons I have been unable to continue with this and do not know how to cancel my affiliation. The only contact I have to this is a website for lindenlab, but there isnt anywhere to go from there. I cant contact anyone and they are charging me everyday to be an affiliate. Does anyone have any information that could be helpful to me?

I am not sure what this "affiliate of a survey scheme" thing is (though it sounds like "scheme" is spot-on the correct noun), but it is unlikely to be directly linked to Linden Labs. Was this something you got conned into signing up for, while in world here?

You could try getting your bank to refuse future payments, though I suspect they may tell you you will have to close your credit card and reopen a new one to shake off these shakedown agents. Which makes it a hassle if you use the card for a multitude of regular payments that you don't want to disrupt.

Hmm. Thanks for ur reply. I guess I need to be more specific. I joined as an affiliate from Money Island and it is a hat u wear. Peeps click on it to do surveys and u get a %. I guess u can call it a mobile survey centre. So far the money is coming out of my daily account in world. I just went to the site after "wear"ing it. There wasn't any personal information I needed to input. Anyone else out there got any ideas?

I'm confused, and YOU pay THEM for this?

Did you allow an object to debit your account?

I wouldn't delete it quite yet in case it may be needed for evidence, hmm. It really sounds to me, pretty ... crooked. Otherwise it may turn out LL could go after someone but not if the evidence (& script) no longer exist. Of course his account history may also show where the money is going, but if it is a scam then best to have the actual script.

How much does it charge your account each week?

Definately detach that item.

Shouldn't that type of script only work when the object is in-world?

Don't tell me this scam works if teh item is in your inventory? 0.0

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

If the item is debiting lindens the only way to stop it is to either delete it or reset the scripts. Putting it in inventory will stop it from debiting while in inventory but it can start up as soon as it is rezed again. You can reset all the scripts in the item by selecting it and clicking 'reset all scripts' from the tools menu. For good mesure, also click 'turn off all scripts' too. Reseting is still necessary as just turning them off doesn't reset them.

I also suggest that you do not delete the object yet. Certainly detach it so it's no longer being worn but don't delete it from your inventory until you're sure the issue has been resolved.

To find out the contact info, check your transaction history here on this website - it should list anybody that you (or a script you're wearing) is sending money to. I suspect they'll just tell you to detach and delete the hat to leave the program. If they say something different, come back here and tell us about it...

Thanks everyone for your help.
I didnt know that I could track the transactions. (I often tried the left hand column "Transaction History" and finally worked out the one I need is on the right side of screen). Yes I have found the culprit. I must say though I am quite perplexed.
While I was right about not being able to cancel affiliation with the "hat" scheme it turned out that this is not the culprit. Gr8 news for anyone out there contemplating such ideas.
I am being charged a group levy that was originally 3 people inc. myself (and now 1 of which has left sl), friends that lost regular contact. I was never notified in any way and weirdly enough started when I became an affiliate. Anyway, I am thankful for all your help and have learnt a few things I didn't know before.

could be group dividends too, remove the object and leave the group you joined for this program.
