This is of little actual concern, more of an annyoing little thing that probably only bothers me ;)

I do not ever remember seeing the count of my inventory items at the top of my inventory floater window...

I have searched the forums (and gave up after the first several pages of unrelated results)

How do I get the spiffy count of my inventory at the top of my inventory floater window like all of my friends have?

The inventory list is cached locally, if you clear cache and relog, it won't know how many items you have in inventory until you either search (then you get Fetching... followed by an increasing number, when it's done the Fetching dissapears) or open the recent items tab (doesn't always trigger it).

Just opening and closing folders on their own usually doesn't seem to trigger a full fetch, but it can make browsing through folders painfully slow.

When there's a lot of load on the grid (or the sim you're on) it can sometimes stop fetching prematurely, leaving you with anything from a few items less to a few thousand less than you should have. This is one of the rare cases where clear cache and relogging actually does work :p.
