Need help with Linus visitor tracker

So, I purchased a single-copy Linus visitor tracker, and have subsequently managed to lose it in-world. But it's out there, working, IMing me as visitors come and go from its range.

From reading the user manual, it seems that the default range is 18m. Strangely, I'm getting "hits" when I stand still in two different locations, well more than 18 (or really, 36) meters apart -- at (217, 235, 325) and also at (219, 152, 51)!!

According to the manual, commands such as "linus help" and "linus list" should provoke a response from the object. However, even when I'm within tracking range, I cannot get a response using these commands.

I've waited a couple days to see if it would be auto-returned to my inventory, but no such luck. The problem is that my IMs are getting capped because Linus continues messaging me even when I'm offline.

I've IMed the creator, no response yet. My fear is that somehow, I managed to drop the Linus script into one of my objects on my land, or possibly into a neighbor's object that allowed modify. I've checked the contents of just about every single one of my objects, and many of my neighbor's, and can't find Linus in there anywhere.

Feeling like a total dork newb here, but does anyone have any "tricks" for finding a missing script like this one?

You could turn on script beacons in one of your drop down menu's. Not sure the precise location, but it shouldn't be too hard.

This will show you on screen all of the scripts that are running. You'll see vertical lines and horizonatl lines.....and where they converge will be a script.

You should be able to find your lost script pretty easily this way

If Linus is on your land, I'd suggest you get within range of it, go into an overhead view, and then trace a selection box around a large area with yourself at the center. A selection box can be done by clicking open Build Mode, picking Edit, and then using a Click and Drag to create the box itself. If you have select nly my objects enabled under Tools, everything you own within the range of that box will be highlighted. If you see something get highlighted that you can't see with your naked eye...check it out. Might be your culprit hiding underground or under/behind an object.

Markubis, Joseph--

Both great suggestions, thanks. I'd never used script beacons before. Unfortunately, I've checked the content of every item that has a cube intersection of the red beacons, and still can't find my mystery script. Can't figure out why it works in two locations 300m apart, either. Will have to wait for the creator to get back to me, I suppose.

If it didn't work when I was offworld, I would think I was somehow wearing it.

I have run into similar situations with losing things on a sim. I found this device free and handy. you rez it on your land and let it do it's thing. it searches the entire sim for your stuff and gives you coordinates.

Hope that helps.

Felowen, thanks. I love the Trash Finder, it will certainly come in handy.

Unfortunately, I let it search my sim (took nearly 2 hours!), copied the results from my Chat History, pasted them into a text editor, and still couldn't find any mention of "Linus." Must be hidden inside another object, so I don't think Trash Finder could find it.

Grrrr. Hopefully, the creator will respond with some suggestions. This is nearly driving me nuts.

Sammy...if you're in world I can send you a prototype finder that only searches for what you ask it to. The range however is only 96 meters, but that should be more than enough...no?

Thanks, Joseph, for this and all your help in-world. Didn't work. Very strange that Linus can detect me, but yet the Finder reports it can't find Linus within 96m. It HAS to be inside an object, I think.

Keep the suggestions coming!! :D

Stupid perhaps but, maybe you are wearing it? If its in range of you everywhere you go?

Would have thought so, but I get IMs from detected people even when I'm offline. And it's actually not within range of me everywhere, just in my sim. So I know it's hidden there somewhere....

The fact that it finds you when you're at two different spots leads me to think it may be close to a simline in the sim. Sims overlap into each other 5m (or is it 10m?) to "help" with sim-crossings. This alos causes some very wierd effects at times (I've seen a lot. I live on a simline lol).

Finding lost prims can be a pain. Use of beacons, locators and even using camera angles below ground and through objects, and turning on the wrieframe mode and more are all tools for such.

I've done fairly well helping friends find lost items in the past. If you still haven't located it, IM me inworld and I'll give it a shot. *Grins* I can't promise I'll find it, but sometimes the outside look sees things missed by familiarity.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

When you get a message from it in your email, can you look at the message details and see a key? Is that the key of the object that sent the message? If so that might help search for the object by key, and use llKey2Name to find the name of the object.

There may be help available by use of libsecondlife code. You might want to post your problem in the forums reachable from libsecondlife.org or in the Efnet IRC channel #libsl.

Jessy, I too live on a simline, so you may be on to something here.

Next time we're both in world, I may take you up on this offer. Thanks.
