You don't need to deed to group, you can just set it to group. Once set, invite your alt to the group, and then you will be able to set home position. If you want your alt to have access to all the 'about land' options, then yes, you will need to deed to group. If you do deed the land: o If on an estate sim, make sure you DO NOT check the 'donate tier' box. o If on the main grid (pay tier to LL), make sure you DO check the 'donate tier' box. Also, if you have others in your group, make sure the permissions for their type of membership (role) are set to ensure that they can not sell the land. |

Isn't that one of the known issues (SL-23593: Members of a group cannot set their home location when land is only set to a group and not deeded)? Well...unkown to me ![]() |

You don't need to deed to group, you can just set it to group. Once set, invite your alt to the group, and then you will be able to set home position. Actually since the changes in groups, you cannot set your home position to land you don't own. I am an alt, and have always shared land with my main, but since the change in groups, this is the message I get if I try to set home position [12:10] You can only set your 'Home Location' on your land or at a mainland Infohub. This is with my group title active. So if there is another way of doing this, other than deeding the land, I would love to know. |

I'm not in game, but I thought when you created the group and got the alt in, you had to go through the perms in the group to allow certin roles the ability to set home.
I could be totally wrong, but that's just what I was thinking. _____________________

There's an ability in roles that specifies being able to set home to the group land.

That ability in roles only applies to group-owned land (land deeded to group).

I believe that's incorrect - my land is not deeded yet my alts can set home there.
I'm notorious for being wrong, though, so let me go inworld and check. _____________________

That ability in roles only applies to group-owned land (land deeded to group). That's not supposed to be true, however it's not working at the moment. My land is not deeded to group, but members have the ability within their role to set it as their home and some alts have set it as their home position. I see, though, that there is something that has made it not work - I pulled in an alt from elsewhere and he tried to set home to my property and got the flag. '''drat' _____________________

Hmmm... I wonder if upping the alt's role in the group would fix this.....................

No workaround yet, and I have bug reported this.
My land is deeded to group and I've had group members set it as their Home position before. One of the last updates broke that. People with the same group roles can't set their home at the same parcels that the others used to use. *sigh* _____________________

Nope, have to have land deeded to group, not just set it to group.
I am owner of the group with my main, yet can do very few of the group functions being an owner allows, simply because the land is not deeded. Nor can I set home there. Has been this way since they changed the group functions and brought in abilities. Before then I had the same rights to the land as my main. |

how long ago was it broken? prior to buying first land about a week ago, i rented a different apartment every week, and could set my apartment as home if i joined the renters' group. what about the possibility of splitting my parcel and renting half to the alt? one house could then overlap the two halves and main and alt could use the whole house.

It has been broken for at least 2-3 months and it is really a pain, cause I don't want to deed land to the group, I just want group members to be able to set their home to my land.

I agree, it is very annoying not being able to allow friends to set their home to land you own without deeding it to a group. What I did was deed it to a group, then let all of my friends know before I did so they could come to my land and set their home there. Then when they were all done I sold the land back to myself for $0 so it was not group owned anymore. A real pain if you don't want group owned land but it was the only way we could figure out how to do it

I'm not 100% certain, but this *may* have been quietly fixed in the last release. I was able to set a Home position on group land just a couple days ago, for an alt that had only been added to that group that day. The parcel was on the mainland, and I don't recaii if it is just set to group or deeded to the group.
I'll run a test on my private island parcel next time I manage to get in-world. It being Christmas Eve today, I am not at all sure I'll go in-world today or tomorrow, as I'll mostly be busy enjoying time with my RL family. My private sim land at this point is just set to my property management group, though I do intend to deed it later to that group. So I could test both cases fairly easily. _____________________

There is a benefit to deeding your land to a group (if it's on the mainland, at least).
When you deed your land to a group and contribute tier to go with it (as the group does have to own enough tier to cover it, which can only come from donations from the group's members), you get an automatic 10% bonus. So if you deed say 4096 sq. m. of land to your group, with 4096 sq. m. of corresponding tier, your group can actually own 4505 sq. m. of land! This really comes in handy if you've purchased the maximum amount of land allowed at your tier level, as you can buy more land without paying a penny extra in tier. One word of warning though, if there are others in your group besides yourself and your alt(s), make absolutely certain that nobody has the ability to sell the group's land unless you know absolutely for sure that you can trust them not to! Otherwise they can sell it to anyone they want for any price they want, and you can't do a thing to stop them! You do have the ability to make sure they can't though, unless you've promoted someone to the role of Owner. So don't do that. ![]() |
