You'd think that, after playing Second Life for four months, I'd have this down pat. However...
Is it possible to fit a ring to an avatar's hand so that it doesn't become incorrectly placed every time the avatar flexes/unflexes their hand?
I know how to position a ring or other jewellery on a posing stand. The hand is in a fixed position, and I can get it perfectly aligned and positioned with my finger. But my avatar flexes and unflexes his hands while standing, both with the default animations and with most animation over-rides. When he flexes his hands, the ring stays in its original position relative to the *hand*, not relative to the finger. That is...the ring ends up "floating" where the finger would be if it were unflexed.
Am I missing something obvious here? Any suggestions / pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Since you can only attach the ring to the hand, not to the finger, you cannot really position it that correctly, as far as I know. When you clench your hand to a fist or point or whatever (which is a feature of the animation importer), the ring is unaware of it, and the attachment point of the hand is the same, too, so there's no way to even detect it.
Sorry...

I think you are stuck...hand is as granular as it gets...now you could script it for various hand states..and do a set position..but c'mon you have better things to do with your time..

Thank you, EmCee and Fairlight!
I thought I was doing things as well as I could re: positioning rings and the impact of finger position. But its good to get my theory confirmed.
Thanks!

Best thing to do is move the ring to the very base of the finger. The ring might go through the webbing between fingers like this, but right at the base it won't be as noticable when the av closes their hand.
