First land or your "free" 512m² is for premium accounts only, basic accounts can not own land.

You don't automatically get the land - you simply have the right to own some.

To actually have some land you have to buy some. Make sure you check out First Land - you can only buy this once, right when you are new. It is $512 for 512m, which is about 17 times cheaper than any other land you will find, so definately worth it.

If you want any more advice on buying land please feel free to contact me in game - it is a bit confusing and scary at first.

What you get with premium membership is not free land, it's 512m2 tier.

What you get is screwed out of your first land. First land is bought by ALTs within seconds of being made available. It is such a joke I don't know why they keep pretending. They should acknowledge that the concept cannot be properly applied under the current growth rates w/ real estate craze and just stop giving it to the land flippers already.

If you've signed up for premium, as long as you've never owned any other land, you can get your First Land. I haven't heard of anyone who has not gotten their First Land unless they chose not to--by not buying it or by buying other land first (land you "buy" on private estates does not count; it's no-covenant land you buy on the mainland that affects your First Land rights and tier). It does take persistence and patience, though, to find First Land. I recommend you run Second Life in the background whenever you're online for any reason, and Search for First Land, 512 m2, 512 L$ every 10 min. or so. Eventually (it may be a few days) you'll find some available. It can go fast, and if it doesn't go fast it's often because everyone is experiencing buy errors due to lag--so don't take a lot of time making up your mind which plot to purchase. But if you do have a few moments to choose, look for something next to Linden-owned maintenance land (e.g. a land or water right-of-way), at, in, or near water, etc.

I liked what Linden did when I upgraded my Basic account to an Premium account.

Sure, I had to commit for a complete year (I had the pay an annual fee, something like 76U$). But there was 512 sq.m waiting for me with a prefab house (you could choise from examples).

Was nice.... Wooaaaa, so proud I was. My first land and house!!!!

They should do things like this more often!

*sighs* Time goes so fast...
