Ok, something is not making sense to me. I have been a premium member since April of 2006. I currently own 1536 meters of land and was considering buying another 512 meters. Knowing that I have 512 meters free (from being a premium member), shouldn't that technically make my "charge-able tier" only be 1024? And if so, if I buy another 512, wouldn't that keep my tier below the 2048 tier price jump?
The reason I ask is, I went to buy another 512 yesterday and I got the notification that my tier would be going up. As I said, I currently have 1536 and the new 512 would bump it to 2048 (which is technically the new tier level)...BUT...I supposedly have a free 512.
Am I not seeing this correctly?

If you go to My Land from the ... world?.. menu, it will tell you the amount of tier you have available.
If you are donating tier to groups, then that reduces your available tier to spend on land purchases.

I don't have any land donated to groups at this time.

Hmmm..I think (and I could be wrong..and no doupt someone will correct me if I am)..if you currenly own 1536 metres you are actually paying a tier on only 1024 metres because 512 will be tier free. If you buy a ‘further’ 512 you will then be paying a tier on the full 1536. 1536 - 512 (tier free) + 512 = 1536 (tier payable). So you should currently be paying $8.00 and if you buy a further 512 metres you will move up into the next level and be paying $15.00

I think I see where the problem lies.. The reason you are currently paying $8.00 is because you own 1024 'tier payable' metres, if you were to buy only 1 metre more you would move up to the next level (you are buying another 512 metres), you don't necessarily have to own the full 2048 to find yourself paying that tier level. It's not calculated on a sliding scale but a series of fixed levels..unfortunately

From: Markubis Brentano the next pay tier is at 2048... It's anything over 1024, if you've got 1025 you'll be in the 2048 category.

Right. But to put it n another way: The OP has 512 + 1024 = 1536 The (first) 512 is free of tier. The 1024 brings you to the limit of the 1024m - US$8/month tier level. Buying even 1 metre more will put you into the 2048 - US$15/month tier level. Buying the further 512 will give you: 512 (free of tier) + 1024 + 512. You can buy one more 512 after that before you hit the top of the 2048 tier. Now you're trapped in a machine! As you step up tier in order to buy a small plot, you find yourself paying tier without actually having all the land area that the tier covers. So you're tempted to buy land to fill the tier. And then, you see a further nice plot - which just busts your current tier level ....... and ......

everyone is right
1024 + 512 = 1536 maximum tier for that level
1024 is the ceiling for your current tier, if you dont include your free tier you ARE at the limit.
Think of tier as meaning "CHARGEABLE UPTO" so you can own land "CHARGEABLE UPTO" 1024 for $8 anything after is then land "CHARGEABLE UPTO" 2048
If you think thats confusing ... you wait to you get group land
