As Pumkin said, you need to create the graphic you want in an external Graphics program like PhotoShop or PaintShop. Save it as a JPG (or TGA*); it's best to save it as multiples of 256 pixels, e.g. 512x256. It's not necessary to use textures much bigger than 512x512pixels in SL - they just add to Lag when people are viewing them (or rather, when their computers are trying to render them
![]() Once you've created the JPG; log in to SL and use File->Upload Image. In the Choose File window that comes up, select it on your local computer's drive (wherever you saved it). It will cost you L$10 to upload. Next, make a Banner object - Build, and start with a rectangular box, which you resize into the shape you want. In the Edit window's Texture tab, click the Texture preview (the default will be the plywood texture) and in the window that comes up, click the 'blank' button. This should make your banner object go white on all faces. Now, use the Select Texture radio button (near the top of the Edit window), then click on the face of the banner that you want to put your Graphic onto. It should now have some semi-transparent 'target' icons on it. Click on the Texture preview picture again, and in the Select Texture window that comes up, find and select your Graphic. Press the 'Select' button, and ok/save out of the Edit window - and you should have your Banner ![]() I hope I've remembered all this correctly as I'm not in SL right now ![]() *TGA - Targa - this is the file type to use if you want to have transparent/invisible parts on your texture. There is more information about that in this thread _____________________

I use Paint! for doing text banners - sometimes including photos. Photoshop can be used for more subtle effects.
Then upload to SL as texture and for 10L$ per go. If you want to apply a texture to just one face of a prim you click the 'select texture' button in 'edit' and then click on the face you want to apply texture and then choose a texture. I make my slimline goods sale boxes this way: Rez a cube and adjust it to suitable proportions Give it a blank texture, choose a colour and apply it overall. Choose a face for the graphics to go on and change its colour to white and then apply the uploaded texture. Select 'full bright' if need be Do the same again for the opposite face. I think our land plots have met in-world even if we haven't, Stylee!!! |

I've seen some on SL Exchange. Search the marketplace for "text"... you'll get a bunch of stuff on textures, but there will also be dynamic signs that display the text you choose. They aren't always pretty, but I would guess they are very useful if you have to change your text frequently.
Some examples, which won't be clickable because bbcode is turned off: http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=239065 http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=248564 http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=163481 http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=252166 http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=31882 http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=135786 http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=15765 And more under the "Signs" category: http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&CategoryID=81 |

Thanks for help! ![]() Are there any in-game programs people have developed to help do it also? =) Depends a lot on how many prims you have to spare. There are some signs that can be set to display text, but the take up a lot more prims than you might think because they take textures for 1 or 2 letters and then apply them to a bunch of prims. I know that Johnii Nowhere has one that is pretty good, and there are others. Check his profile for his shop. |

I should have looked this up before I posted the first time. This is a link to a forum posting about XY Text. This is the software tool or set of tools in SL that is used to set up the signs I referred to in my previous post. You can read this thread to see if you want to build your own or go buy one. Later in the thread they talk about getting 5 faces per prim on the flat surface of the sign which would let you do 5 or 10 letters per prim depending on how fast you want it to load.

If you're looking for a half decent free photo type application then download Gimp.
