Creating events on land you don't own, is it rude?

I bought some land today, when I got there, there were a lot of items on the land and a lot of people visiting, I thought maybe people were impressed by the low price but soon realised they were there for the items.

Looking around I realised there was a yard sale going on there.

Is this entrepreneurialism at its finest or people taking the p*ss?

Oh and to the people who arrive at the yard sale to find nothing there, sorry but I returned all the items to their owners, however if you want to rent the land from me to run your yard sales feel free :P

Squatters Rights in SL = Nil.

I think I would have given everyone a little notice before breaking up the party. Maybe an hour, maybe a day, depending on how quickly I wanted to develop the property. But I wouldn't have minded what they were doing. I mean, if the land was just sitting there, otherwise unused, why not put a yard sale on it for as long as that lasts? If they gave you any lip about leaving, on the other hand: immediate freeze, eject, ban seems the appropriate response.

Actually I'm an idiot, with those people coming to the yard sale, one of them might have decided to rent the land! Damn why did I return the items!

My guess is that the event has been running while the owner was waiting for a buyer for the land. One of my favourite freebie shops is on land which is permanently up for sale. The owner may not be expecting a quick sale (it's a BIG parcel) and is looking to defray costs in the meantime?

I think you're spot on, thinking about it, only the owner could have arranged this. The items weren't all owned by him which is why I was thinking it was cheeky but maybe he came to an agreement with the other people selling there.

Oh I would love for that to have happened to me lol. I have so many items I need to get rid of. I probably would've blended in and started discreetly adding my own stuff to the mix to sell lol. If it drew people, i'd be dumb not to take advantage of someone elses advertising *evil grin*.

I get annoyed by the people that build houses and stuff just because I have extra prims free.

I encourage people to rez some items that go with the theme of the place, but the problem is that the club needs to reserve some prim allotment because of all the things that need to be rezed on demand.

Running out of prims also messes up my money tree.

I had one guy once place a house and tell people it was his land.
He then ignored my IM's so I had to ban him and return his stuff.

My land, my rules. I dare someone to come onto my property and try to run an event without my knowledge. If I catch them I'll delete every object on the land that is theirs and ban them all.

Maybe a little harsh, but the way I look at it, your land is your personal property. People don't have the right to advertise an event on land that isn't theirs without explicit permission from the landowner, and if they do then that's the risk they run.

Think of the traffic, stuff campingbots just advertise free yardsales in one cornere of your land and let someone else pay for advertising, ah but then you need to pay for an ad to have other people pay for an ad.................................. :)

I bought some land recently that had a club on it. When I had just completed the purchase there were a number of people dancing and enjoying their evening - so I just left everything and came back later when they had all gone before I started clearing and setting up my shop.

Within a short time of acquiring a whole sim, I had two squatters in the sky. The first was cool when confronted and I let him stay for a few weeks to build his military base for some fun sounding RP he was involved in. It was in the sky where I hadn't built yet so I didn't care. And he was nice.

The second squatter ran and refused to communicate. After two days his stuff was returned.

Squatting in SL is an odd thing. These people have to hunt around and find sims with no return etc. On the one hand I'm amused, on the other not if the parcel is getting full already and can't take many more prims.
