Lecktor Hannibal (Leck) and some of his friends built a memorial to the living and the dead of the two Iraq wars (1991 and the current conflict). He moved it to my sim Galactica a few weeks ago, http://slurl.com/secondlife/Galactica/175/107/501The reason why I"m posting this is because the future of the memorial is now uncertain. Leck, AFAIK, is not returning any time soon to SL. I can't afford to give the memorial 100% free rent, but what I will do is just charge cost (no excess lindens over per square meter cost to me). This works out to L$1843 per month for the space. The way I view the memorial is to honor the men and women who died, were injured and who served. I completely leave the civilian leadership out of this. I also leave any controversies at the door. If you agree with me that this memorial should continue on, please consider contacting the Friends of the Iraq War Memorial group here in SL.

Steven, Send me an IM to remind me (because i will probably forget) so that in 6 hours from now when i log in, I can take a look. As someone who served when Daddy Bush went there, i'll be happy to donate a month to honor those who served under Baby Bush. Your IM will also jog my memory to pay you.

You could also put a donation box by it with a notice explaining for it to survive, help is needed.

Yes the donation box is the best idea I think. If it makes any surplus funds maybe they could go to a related charity, or the International Red Cross or something.

I'm in the military (14 years now) and it touches my heart to see this type of stuff going on. Thank you for leaving the politics out of this as that is what hurts those that serve the most.

My Girl toy and i were happy at one time to have Played host to the Memorial.
I am a Canadian, and by persuasion, a Pacifist and i wouldn't have anything to do with glorifying War. what This memorial IS doing, is Honoring, and remembering those persons who have Lost thier lives as a result of the War. Most knew the risks they were taking, and did their Duty as they saw it anyway. Some named were Innocent Victims of an Uncontrollable storm. In either case, the Loss of Life is a sad, and terrible thing. Whatever your politics, I think it's Good to have something around to remind us of the HUMAN cost of such ventures.
I've said it Many times before, I don't Support War, But i would Never Damn a Soldier for Doing his Duty honorably.
Long may the Iraq Memorial Stand, and lets do our Best to see to it no more names are added to it.
Angel.

Glad you did this, Steve.
If anything good comes out of this, beyond honoring the honorable dead, I hope it will be this:
That everyone finally comes to understand and agree that terorism - for ANY CAUSE - is a fundamental attack on civilization and on humanity, and on all of us, and must be stamped out. Period. No exceptions.

Please don't send any more lindens to me....

I've applied all of the donations given to me so far at a rate of L$1843 per month, and the IWM is "paid up" until September 30, 2007. There is no urgent need to send me any donations.
I'd really like someone from the Iraq War Memorial Group here in SL to step forward and handle all the fund-raising and donation-handling. This takes me out of the loop and removes any suspicions of me "making money" off the Memorial.
Again, PLEASE do not send any more donations to me. Contact the members of the Iraq War Memorial group and arrange the donations with them. IF nothing is done by September 30th, I"ll pick this issue up then and we'll get it solved somehow.

Angel. The Nurembourg War Trials did not honor soldiers for 'doing their duty', nor did they accept that they were 'just following orders' and the problems were all with the politicians. This war is illegal. No US soldiers should therefore be there. No-one should be honored for breaking international law. The soliers who are ordered to go into Iraq have a choice. Many took the honorable decision and refused to go (and it is these who should be honored), not the ones who took the less honorable decision.

How upsetting to read, most people whatever their views on any war will always stand behind and support those that fight and die for their country, so we have the freedom to have such a view. These men and women are doing their job and I am sure the parents and loved ones of those that have fallen and those that are serving find nothing dishonorable in their soldiers as they serve their country as they do their duty they have been called to do. How very brave each and everyone of them are, I have upmost respect for past, present and future troops and thank them for everything they do, no matter my political view.
