Rabbi Richez posted this in Linden Answers. I've copied it herre so that the resident community can weigh in.

Security and Policing for Welcome and PG areas
In my time on SL I've seen instances of abusive and disruptive people harrassing other users in welcome and PG areas (these people are a minority, most of the SL population are respectful polite people). I am a member of a security/police group (we generally help people, mainly newbies) and often when a person is consistantly being very annoying or abusive to others we approach them and try to ask them to stop, in extreme circumstances and where the rules allow, we can eject them from the area using various methods such as orbit guns etc...

However, these people usually just move on to other areas and annoy someone else, shouldnt there be a way for groups such as ours (private security groups performing similar duties) to report directly to SL staff when such people insist on continuing to harass? Perhaps with a set of rules to follow for us? (such as 1st warnings before ejecting the person from the area? or a way to report these users to Linden in-world?). Remember i am only talking about extreme circumstances where someone is genuinely upset with another persons behaviour, what do y'all think?...

Rabbi, what *I* think is that you are *very* lucky that you and your minions have not been AR'd yourself for your supposedly well-intentioned, yet *STILL* illegal, actions under the TOS.

This is my biggest gripe with the inworld "police" and "security" groups, typically made up of trigger-happy avs looking for an excuse to orbit others, while cloaking themselves in some veil of "security." And the primary reason that I require all those who enter my parcel armed to disarm and stand down immediately.

Gah, not another vigilante/'police' group. No thanks. There's already mentors and lindens to deal with such matters.

I'd like to weigh in... as a parent.

The need for attention is very great, for some. Any attention, even negative attention.

Policing groups don't work, because they *provide* that attention, which encourages *more* behavioural problems.

When I have griefing issues in my sims - it's usually resolved in less than ten seconds.

Someone shooting? Bam, gone. Done, back to tea and conversation. It works.

Mentors have no more power than you or I do to deal with WA or InfoHub griefers. All they can do is call a Linden.
