Extremely Low FPS

Is anyone aware of what could be causing an FPS rate of 1.5 - 2.5 immediately after the upgrade to 1.15? I was running an average of 9 -11 FPS before the upgrade. I did everything I could think of to remedy the problem but I've had no luck. Could there have been a change in the new release that my Graphics Card can't handle? It's not the best card to begin with.

My System Info:

CPU: Intel Pentium Pro (centrino duo 1829 MHz)
Memory: 1015 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Graphics card: Intel 945GM

Theres another post that says Intel video cards are not really supported - I cant remember off hand where it is.

But the gist was with Intel cards many people who could play cant now.

A lot of people have had trouble with the update. Let's run down some factors:

1- Are your video card drivers completely up to date ?

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Support_Intel.aspx

2- Do you have the right motherboard drivers ? Same URL as above.
3- You may want to consider adding some RAM. Not mandatory but a thought.
4- Have you tried reinstalling SL ? Another thing to do is to totally delete SL files and then reinstall.
5- Another radical step is to delete your video card drivers. Then reinstall them.

I hope this helps.

motherboard and video drivers all up to date ... triple checked.
Totally deleted SL files and reinstalled .... no change.
Haven't tried to reinstall video card drivers ... i guess i'll do that now.
Other people in the house have complained about Broadband Speed but i clock it at about 6.5 - 7 MB downstream.
I guess there is a good possibility that whatever changes were made in the update put me in the percentile of people with an Intel Card for who SL just does not play nice. Can't we all just get along ??

are you sure you didn't clock that at 6 or 7(Mb) megabits per second? instead of (MB)megabytes?

No ... I had it right.

Although ... upon rechecking this morning I'm down to barely 1.5 MB. Therein would lie my problem.

 I thought my ADSL2+ downstream speed was faster than most at 24Mbps, but 7MB is like ... 58Mbps!!
Are you sure you're not on a 8Mbps ADSLMax package?

Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. :p According to this page any GPU with Intel in its name is not compatible with Second Life (Does that mean these GPUs don't have OpenGL harware support?) However, I recall similar complaints with the First Look viewer and disabling VBO (Vertex Buffer Objects) in Preferences would sometimes fix the problem. Give that a go. Anything is worth a try. :)

Hmmm ... it seems as though you were right and as seems to be the case I was completely wrong about about my downstream rate. Everyone is good at least one thing, which would also hold true that one must be not so good at least one thing as well ... that explains a lot in my case. I do, of course, feel completely foolish at this point.

Anyhow ... back to the subject at hand.

VBO is and seems to have been disabled in prefs. You are quite right about Intel Cards not being compatible, I've read the same article. However, I've never had a problem until the upgrade which would lead me to believe that my less than sufficient card could no longer keep up with the newer version.

I confuse even myself at times.

Perhaps this would be as good a time as any to blow the dust off my wallet and spring for a better card? It certainly wouldn't hurt.
