LL does the First Land cheap one time only deal to get you hooked so you'll by more and more and more till you have to sell your RL house and clothes and so on in order to satisy you insatiable appetite for virtual land.
Do any of the SL users that sell or rent land do any vaguely comparable super discount limited parcel size one time only deals?

I certainly don't mean that to suggest such a thing would be done for any reason but hope of increased profit. Hmm, the Lindens can do a First Land deal because they know if you have ever had land before. A resident land dealer would have no way to know if you'd bought or rented land from someone else. So the "getting you hooked" value wouldn't be as great for the non-Linden seller. Still, there might be some value for the land dealer in maybe one month or even one week at a discount for a first time customer of theirs. This assumes they have good enough records to know if someone is a first time customer or not. They could give a discount based on account age, if they wanted, that might work to their advantage. Won't do me any good though.

Won't do me any good though. Optimisim is a good thing tho but i do agree it would be a good idea and the way things are changing here it may well happen. It is something i would seriously consider doing when and if we get an island to run our monthly Second Life Support Fund lottery from, as helping people achieve their goals is what i do best and what better way than to create an annual member every month with the lottery ticket sales and the profits we make from other business interests and donations from various people in SL going back into the community, shameless plug for the lottery over Creating values rather than profits here is more important to me personally hence i love your idea I just get dispondent when we have all the problems we have with people losing hundreds of L$s worth of items where LLs cant manage the database effectively and many problems go seemingly unoticed because support of 3rd party applications and new features are far more important in their eyes than fixing the core product and making it stable but thats just my opinion But all that said there is nothing like SL anywhere so whilst thats the case i will continue to invest my RL funds into the game, because after all i have made some very good friends here and love this place tho the problems and the speed they are fixed at needs some serious attention and LLs needs to truely listen to its customer base and not just pay lip service which is what i see more often than not now. Peace

Some of the Private Island Estates will hand out small plots at creation price to new Avatars providing they have a Pay Pall account, and allow resale.
However it is not possible for any land trader to do that on the mainland (in the absence of any discounts from Linden Labs) unless they are prepared to loose money.
I trade land myself now and again, so I know the cost economics. There are a few Land traders who retail lower cost land but in many cases it can be a disappointment to the purchaser (usual SL issues, Clubs, Malls, Camping chairs, Laggy Sims, etc)
So I stick to super premium land (more prims) (+/- 40 meters) (Land with direct water access) (class 5 server) etc. I accept my land is not cheap but I do know I am unlikely to have disappointed purchasers, as I will not buy the land to trade unless I was prepared to use it myself

Newbie Rentals

I don't know what you consider low rent for newbies but Ravenglass* offer some decent deals IMO for rental only not sales. But as a TOTAL newb, renting first is probably wise anyway. I'm at Aztecha some of there other properties are....not my sort of thing, but Aztecha is decent canal side property with flexible building options. I think I pay $150L per week for a small plot with 135 prims allowed. Just enough for a little cottage and a place to build/get dressed, etc. My OH's plot is twice the size and 230 prims at $200 something. The places are only available for avatars up to 180 days old. *And I don't want to get involved in any flame wars regarding personalities, so just don't go there please. Chellonia Regent

I've considered this carefully recently, and could actually pull it off. However, I sadly changed my mind. New players are *incredibly* time-intensive. What's a prim? Where do I get $L? Click on what to pay? Where do I find the rules? Why is my neighbour angry with me? Not that I don't take in new players - I do, and lots of them. But they need a very high level of very personal care, and they don't have their own social networks yet. They know one or two people, and me - and are the source of about 70% of my instant messages. I simply don't have enough time to provide a compelling experience for large numbers of them. Incidentally, you'll never find a better, happier sim than one full of new players about two months old. No matter what it looks like to the eye of a more experienced beholder. Ah, the bliss of 'good times'.

Renting below market
01-08-2007 08:50
I recently advertised a 512 parcel open for rent with highest bid for monthly rent winning. I thought it was a fair way to let the market decide how much rent was fair for the parcel.
Not one person bid.
I'm very willing to offer parcels to anyone who is "good people" at a reasonable rate (what I mean by that is that you aren't going to put a giant penis on the land, lol). For me, it's about having good neighbors to improve the SIM, not making tons of cash. I'd like to cover tier, but that's about it.
Let me know what you're looking for if you're interested.
