There are some messages I can't load because they link to third party sources like Flicker and I don't know what else (I can't always see what's trying to load.) But when trying to open the thread my browser just goes and goes and goes until I get tired of waiting and cancel. If you have a sig or something else that links to a third party site, it would be nice if, well... you didn't. Or am I the only one who is having trouble with that?

I turned signatures off because one of them (maybe more than one) caused my IE8 to open the Connect / Work Offline box every time. I hadn't seen that box since dialup days. I've no idea why it happens, but it was certainly one or more signatures that did it.

bad parsing on the part of IE8 treating the embedded link as something it needs to parse before continuing... and evil site blocking that continually forwards the page request back and forth.

I'm currently in China where Flickr and Imageshack are blocked. So, the banners in my sigline are both unable to load. As a result, Firefox simply bypasses them and simply loads the rest of the thread. (^_^)
Actually, all threads have been loading faster since I been reading from behind the red curtain. (^_^)y _____________________

What image storage sites that accommodate non-Chinese-speaking people do work? It's hit-or-miss, though. There are times when a site is outright blocked and there are times when your internet connection is suddenly 'reset' while a page is loading. I've checked for consistency and it's there in some respects. Another pattern I found is that if I visit a working image site within a minute or so after visiting images.google.com my internet access gets disconnected for a minute or two. (>_< ![]() Blogspot is blocked. (>_< ![]() Twitter is often visible, but, blocked while trying to login. (>_< ![]() Youtube is blocked, but, embedded Youtube videos often slip by. (>_< ![]() It's a "funny" place here. (=_=) _____________________

A lot of ISPs provide webspace along with the net account. Mine provides 200Mb
I simply copy the images to the webspace with my file manager using ftp then make sure I can see it in the browser and copy that address. Makes it real easy to say, change a banner image or an advert shown anywhere and in many places with one change. _____________________

It's a "funny" place here. (=_=) ![]() My RenRen (Chinese Facebook clone) photo storage seems to work over here, at least for me. I find it quite amusing that I have a RenRen account. _____________________

Some aspects of communism isn't too bad. I would have a job now if we incorporated one or two of them.

I would hardly call what's going on here "communism" or "socialism". I gave a much more detailed description over in the SC forums. Really, this place has the U.S. class struggle amplified by a billion. (._.)
Yes, the economy is growing here. But, I just spent two weeks working with the people who's backs it's growing on. It's not a pretty picture. (T_T) ( Posted via VPN... I sho'ain't gonna risk it. (>_< ![]() _____________________

I've seen IE8 endlessly load pages that load immediately in any other browser.

I've seen IE8 endlessly load pages that load immediately in any other browser. among other stupid things IE8 does with simple transparency.... I so regret upgrading that component (I only use IE for things like Ms update) @Pete: in FF? that's a new one on me... are you using adblock or flash block? they seem to help with that... used to be you could block images from external sites, but I can't seem to find that option now (although if you can find the offending image/address you can still block that site) _____________________

Which version? I've had zero problems dealing with blocked/stalled images all week... Multiple forums. (O.o) 3.5.6 -- but on a Mac. And it works flawlessly here and elsewhere except for the occasional thread. Maybe it's just a server/bandwidth thing. _____________________

I think that if you have loaded IE8 after installing SP3 then you are supposed to be able to uninstall IE8 without too much trouble.
If you installed IE8 before installing SP3 then you have to uninstall SP3 first to uninstall IE8, which might distress any number of programs. Moral of story: do not install IE8, even if you hardly ever use IE. _____________________
