Using a sky platform?

I just got Mystitool (which seems great) after reading some threads on this forum and found the sky platform rezzer today - am I correct in thinking that this can or should only be rezzed above your own land (whether owned or rented)? and also what use are they put to? It's fun to travel up there and rezz it but what do folks do up there in and above the clouds? thx. Tasha

Sometimes it's less laggy up there ... maybe because there is less to render for the client when you're way up.

Also gives you some privacy. Not that many peeping Toms at that height.

You are correct - you should only rez the platform above your own land, or above land where the owner has given you permission to do so. Or perhaps in a public sandbox area.

As far as what to do up there, well "The sky is the limit". Many people choose to make their homes up there.. less lag, more fantasy, etc.. others tend to go up there to build, again mostly due to less lag, more freedom of movement, etc.

I have a sky box above my land even though I have plenty of room to work on my 4096 mm. I keep my photo studio up there so I can snap in peace :D

About half of my home is at high altitude. The half I don't want anyone but invited guests to visit. It has a bedroom, a living room a spa, and a couple other rooms for special purposes. By being high up, I can safely activate a security orb to keep intruders away, with minimal impact on people flying or boating below me.

That sky part is also where I do most of my building work, as it's lower lag than on the ground. One of the special rooms ia a large enclosed space where I can build without being interrupted, and where no one has to look at my half-completed projects.

The ground parts are for entertaining casual visitors, and to "look pretty" for those who live nearby. I have a Japanese Tea House there where I meet guests, and a home with an indoor pool.

I use the mystitool sky platform as my workstation and photo studio. I usually leave it up on my land all the time, and landmarked it so I can just teleport up there. You can always use the mystitool's flight booster to fly up there. I like the fact it is less laggy, and isn't cramped. Like Ceera, I can use it to work on half finished products, and not worry about cleaning up after myself, or having to remember to change the name from "object" to something different lol

MystiTool is the tool of choice for sims renting Skyboxes, Skypods and SkyHomes.

I set the height, go up and the platform rezzes. I place the House rez box on the correct cords on the platform, click it and watch the SkyHome rezz. I then get back into the platform vehicle, de-rezz the platform, leaving the SkyHome up there. Then on to the next plot.

Easy-peasy.

Thanks for these ideas

Thanks so much for sharing these thoughts - i really like those ideas of 'splitting' house areas/functions between levels. I'm yet to try building but i can see that there would be advantages there too. Thnx to all.

I see people have mentioned the privacy and lower lag. My reason for liking skyboxes is aesthetic--it doesn't matter what foolish things my bozo neighbors have built all around my land; I find an altitude where I can park my skybox and enjoy the stars or a sunset from my patio.

Sunsets are nicer over water, but you can't beat the framerate up above the clouds.

I rent a tiny piece of mainland, so at ground level I have to contend with whatever get-rich-quick eyesore my neighbors see fit to erect and feel cramped in my little plot. At 220m (just above the clouds) I have an entire magical kingdom practically to myself. Like Ceera I have a little 'welcome area' at ground level, but most of my time 'at home' is spent in the sky.

At 200m I don't quite get the full lag-relief I would at 500 or higher, but living in the clouds is just too pleasant to give up on :)

having had a day to spend on it, I've been guided by advice and set up a lovely small Japanese house on my 20x20 platform @ 600m - the house i got free (!) in Tyci Kenzo's collection of free stuff (check it out) and furnished it minimally again free from Tyci's collection. My only expense was L100 for some gorgeous (random) wind chimes. I can only agree with those who mentioned the aesthetic appeal of being up here - it's so peaceful and serene - what a buzz! The only thing I am unsure about is whether I would need a security bot that got a mention in this post - i don't want to start another thread on that tho as i'm sure this is well talked about - it wouldnt fit with the ambience i think so i'll just live without one and see! Then turn off the clouds, and set your draw distance to 512m and get the reduced lag AND all the sea views!

Congrats! I thing that you made the right decision.

Re security orb ... my personal opinion: Forget it!

First, it's a potential lag producer.Second, it may be an annoyance to a passerby (Yeah, I know ... not bloody likely @ 600 m).

But most importantly, it does not offer any protection whatsoever. If you know how, it's almost unbelieably easy to look through walls hundreds of meters away, as long as it's somewhere in the same region as you are. Currently it is not possible to protect against that.

pfft 512 draw distance on mainland. I'd just see everyone else's skyboxes :D

Actually building at the cloud layer is cool- if you do it right you can get a nice sauna effect in the basement with the main area looking over the fluffiness.
