I have a simple question: How does one make a sign in SL? I am opening a business soon, and need a few signs inside and outside of the building. I have no clue how to do this - are the words created as a texture and place on a prim block, or what?
I know this probably sounds like a total noob question but guys, I honestly don't know how to do it! LOL
Can someone enlighten me?
Thanks!

It is exactly as you say. Creatre/squash/stretch a cube to make your sign, wether it be a poster, or a billboard. You then upload a texture to cover the sign in the colors and design you want. Using the "select texture" feature of your editor will even allow you to make a sign that has two different ads on the broad sides when you do it right. As to how to make that cube into a Sign? F-1 on your keyboard will take you into the help tutorials. Get a look at building basics. That will get you rezzing and torturing your prims in no time flat. ;>

The sign Graphic i simply create in Photoshop, or Corel Photopaint, and Import.
I like to create a Cylinder, about one meter hight by six or seven across, Hollow it into a Ring, then Place my Sign Banner on it's outer face, Repeat it Horizontally three times, Then i just add a simple rotating Prim script. I Position the sign in the Air over my shop, Ten meters or so above, then add a Light effect floating in the Middle of the ring to catch the eye.

Considering I've only used it in COMMERCIAL areas, I've had no complaints, Unlike the Louts who just throw huge signs up everywhere. A.

One thing a person might want to do for some signage is to use white letters on a clear background. This lets you set the color of the prim which thus sets the color of the letters. This can be used for minimally intrusive floating lettering or the letterboard can be placed in front of a normal sign background object as desired. For those wanting to make some more challenging signs, check out www.signmuseum.com among other sites to get ideas at. It has a few pictures and some good RL sign related links.

Response to JOHAN DURANT

From: Johan Durant Yes. Ask this question in the Building forum. OK, this was not a helpful answer, and it was abit nasty. NOT necessary Johan. This is a RESIDENT helping/answering other RESIDENTS forum. It was perfectly appropriate for me to ask a question of my fellow SL residents. Why even bother to posts if you're not going to be helpful. GEEEEZ.
