My Group owns a plot, and I'm the Group owner.
The members are all friends and family, and it was made to let them put objects on the Land, with Autoreturn activated.
How can I transfer the ownership to my NEW Group? The name of the old Group is kinda crazy, and the new Group is more tame, and inviting... for people who might want to Rent on the Land. Any help is appreciated.

Set it for sale to yourself only, for 0L.
Then, set your active group to the group you want to move the land to, and go into "About Land". Then click "Buy for Group" and buy it for 0L.
I assume you already have your tier arranged? You might want to check or uncheck the "Remove tier contribution" box, depending on exactly what you want to do there.

First make sure you have enough tier to hold the land. If your tier is being used in the group it seems like you can take it out for a short while even if it puts you in the red.
Then sell land to yourself for 0. Make sure you use the price 0 and that you set yourself as the specific person NOT Anyone.
Then click Set on the About Land -> General page and select the new group. Check Allow Deed To Group and Owner Makes Contribution With Deed and then click Deed.
You are now done. Check both groups to make sure they have enough tier donated to them.
DO NOT SET THE LAND FOR SALE AT L$1 TO ANYONE.
*Edit: Oh wait, Stephen's plan of Buy For Group works too if not better

I have transferred land by making it for sale for L $1 to a specific buyer and everything went smoothly. Now I'm wondering if I did something wrong. Is there a reason to make it L$0?

Is there a reason to make it L$0? If you set it for L$0 then it won't let you set it to Anyone you have to pick a specific person. The important part is really the specific person part not the chosen price.

Do you have to do anything special to keep objects on the land from being returned when it changes ownership?
