Had some kind of strange visitors picked up visiting my land in the last few days all having similar names such as 00000005bnt, 00000014bnt and so on.
I do a people search and there are 90 odd AV's created on 20 July from 00000002bnt onwards.
Just curious as to who these guys are - any one seen them about also?
Thanks
Billy

Interesting and bizarre. One can deduce that they are all associated in some way.
Eight digits followed by "bnt". A one-up numbering system and an abbrviation or acronym?
Auto-created avatars?
Use of another number system? (Come on you math majors out there.)
Is there anything of particular interest on your land? Anything unique or extraordinary? Where is your land located?
I have not seen any of these, but this is intriquing.

yes auto created sounds right.
My land is a small volcanic themed island in its own, largely ocean, sim. Only bought it last week; the visits may be still be being generated as the 'for sale listing' in search is most likely still showing.
Sounds like an army of AV's though lol

As far as I know BnT is an LL registered last name by Brautigan and Tuck Holdings ( one of the companies listed on AVIX and previously WSE). Purpose is to show that avies are associated with the company and IP rights don't get muddled.
I remember seeing an announcement over at wselive.com about this.

what i find odd is that each avatar must have its own email address. did someone create a ton of email addies for this? i can't imagine the time and energy spent.....

If you own a domain name, often you can make up all of the addresses you want on the fly and they'll all end up in one main default catchall box, without needing to create a separate email setup for each.

I've seen the same series of names on my land a few times. I also get a lot of visitors who have "normal" AV names, but when I look at their profiles, there is no profile info and they were all created in September and October of 2006. There is a pretty steady flow of those ones, 5 or 6 different ones each day. This has been going on for months....I've just found it strange that they all were created around the same time, have no profile info/groups...and there are so many of them. I rarely ever get a visit from a real AV with a profile.

From: Ange Jacobus I've seen the same series of names on my land a few times. I rarely ever get a visit from a real AV with a profile. You might check the names to see whether it is part of these guys' project: From: Diva Canto Hi all. I'm Felix's partner on SLBrowser and yes, I'm on vacation in RL, with periods when I don't even have internet connection First, a word on SLBrowser; then the names of the bots. We want to provide a Google-like search engine for SL. Classifieds and paid advertisement all have their place and purpose, but there is no question that automatic crawling of content, as well as ranking by means of automatically measuring certain measurable features (rather than ranking by the number of digits on a pay check), has revolutionized the way people think about finding stuff on the web. That's what we're doing here. SL (and virtual worlds in general) are just in the beginning, so a lot of this still feels like the wild west. One of those sensitive points has to do with permissions/privacy/access control. Our bots go wherever avatars can go, they "see" whatever avatars can see. If I, Diva Canto, can land inside your bedroom, so can our bots. On purpose, we're only listing part of what the bots can actually detect: that part that we think is useful for the public to know and that preserves residents' privacy and property. I think we're doing a good job with that -- but that's up to the residents to tell us! Please let us know if we're listing something that we shouldn't. With 1.3 million things, and only a couple of months of existence, we're bound to make mistakes -- like for example the textures, which, as Felix explained, will be fixed in the next version. (We could try to make the argument that copyright is your only protection, since, technically, all of your precious textures can be easily copied by hackers; but we're not going there. We are placing a watermark on the textures that will render them useless to copy) About the bots. Below are their names. As a matter of principle, we don't want to list anything whose owners don't want to make public. Feel free to ban our bots from your property if you don't want your products listed. For everyone else, please say 'hi' when they show up (Don't try to strike a conversation, though, they're pretty dumb Here they are: Computer Allen Collaboration Yoshikawa Cyberr Kidd Savvy Lisle Studious Jacobus Web Debevec Hack Swindlehurst Innova Despres IP Benelli
