Hi forum,

where on the harddrives are the IM and chatlogs placed per default? Both Windows XP and Mac OS X. We need the exact path, for example "C:\Programmes\SecondLife\user\blabla\morebla" (aren't they in Documents and Settings on an XP?) I'm asking for somebody, who has no credit card info and therefore cannot ask here himself, and I cannot come to the SL computers before the weekends, therefore I cannot look for myself.

Can't help with the Apple but with Windows it's; C:\Documents and Settings\<windows login name>\Application Data\SecondLife\<sl login name>

You're welcome Sinitta. I'll carry on looking for a while for the Apple file position but I came across a post that points out that in preferences, your friend should be able to read where logs are stored, at least they can on the PC (which is Preferences/Communications tab) so I assume the Apple has a similar preferences structure. :)

I've been curious about this too, but haven't been able to find the file(s) anywhere in that directory. Do they get deleted when you log out? What format are they in?

Do you definitely have 'save chat & IM logs' on in Preferences? They are off by default.
I think I read they are overwritten on subsequent logins but not sure. Appended would make much more sense.

They are appended. I have logs from when I first turned that little feature on, even after speaking with the same people numerous times.

That's probably it. Thanks!

If you go into your preferences and look at the screen for communication (I think that's what it's called--am not inworld right now) where you checked off to store your IM's and Chat logs, it tells you there exactly where it is stored. You can copy and paste it into a web browser window and it will take you right there.
