I just finished creating an interesting and fun avatar which I would like to sell. The problem is, I can't afford land or shop rents. I tried rezzing the packing box on commercial areas where the "build" was available but they keep getting auto-returned. How can I sell?

Maybe contact a few skin and shape dealers and see if they will sell it for you, maybe on a comission basis. or maybe a mall owner has a small space they will let you have on a similar arrangement for a limited time.

There's also slexchange.com and slboutique.com. For both of these you need a place where you can permanently keep a 1 prim box rezzed in world, to act as your delivery server.

"clipwalls"
04-03-2007 09:57
Try clipwalls at malls. I rented the "outside" space of a booth. 3 prims for 15 linden a week. You could box the item (1 prim). Then check SL Boutique and SL Exchange websites. Free! (Exchange charges small comission) You have to rez a magic box for ezch to hold merch, but you have two left at the mall! Just change the textures on the boxes to signage for your item. TADA! You're seeling in 3 different venues for 15 bucks a week! I'd make sure that the SIM that the mall is in was specific to your product as well. GOOD LUCK!!!

You could ask in the Help Wanted forum if anyone has vendor space for new residents - I occasionally see people offering a few prims for new designers (usually with age limit). No concrete tips, sorry, I don't keep track of that kind of stuff. Putting out stuff to sell in a random commercial location without renting space first is frowned upon, as is putting out stuff in someone's shop without asking first.

Dragger has made a nice gesture. I would take him up on it and also put your Av on SL Exchange and SL Boutique as others have suggested. You could use the 20 prims for your item and to host the vendor boxes for SLE and SLB.
You say you can't afford shop space, but if you only have an Av for sale you can rent small stalls for very small amounts which will be covered if you make any sales.

I did find one or two places in SL that permitted free selling. One was 'Under the Boardwalk' but I'm not sure if they still let you put stuff there for free.

I am getting ready to open a small shop in Drakul on one of my empty properties, you can put your av there for free if you want. IM me anytime. Shop should be ready to go by this weekend - will be adding it in search etc as well.
***obviously I cant take on massive amount of people for free - but one or two here and there with very very low prims is fine - so please dont everyone im me looking for free space lol.

I rented some shop space today in a mall where all the units were 100L$ except for one which was 1L$. Possibly this was a typo as all the spaces were similar - so I naturally went for the 1L$ space!
