I upgraded to a premium account quarterly membership on feb 17th. On feb 20th they change the rules. BLEEP! BLEEP!
My question is does anyone know if LL is going to do anything for those
who upgraded before the first land program ended? Any ideas? Every place I have rented was Bleep so I hate renting Plus I want to open up a store at some point.

Here is what they are going to do: nothing.

Sorry about your timing. The market is pretty stable right now, so if you are ready to own, you might as well purchase a 512 in an area that you like.

Bummer, Joey..

Your best best is to either not renew premium if you're paying per-month or to shop around and buy a 512 lot. You'll pay more than you would have for First Land but it won't be that horrible.

LL may do something for people who registered right around the time they dropped First Land. Once you're not too pissed off any more, contact Help Request and ask if there's anything you can do..

If it's any consolation, I had an IM from a player ingame a couple weeks back who had upgraded to Premium on February 19th... I truly feel sorry for him (and you). It's unfortunate there wasn't some way to provide land to those who upgraded before the end date.

That's unfortunate..very unfortunate. I don't think LL is going to change the way things work now though at the sound of one voice, or even if all of SL stood behind the cause.
If you aren't comfortable buying land at the prices they are at right now, your only option really is to rent. I have rented at quite a few places in SL before I bought my island and even still do. Some were great, others flat out sucked. I know it's hard to tell, but there ARE good landlords out there.

I feel your pain. I was just about to look into getting a First Land parcel when the rug was pulled out. Luckily I saw an add here for a 512m lot for sale, checked it out and it was a nice plot and the price was good, so I grabbed it. not much you can do, except suck it up and move on.

Raymond gave you some good advice. When I got ready to buy my First Land, there was simply none available. [Early to mid February]. I simply looked around a lot and found a nice one, I think, in an area I like and still do. I may have paid too much money for it, but that is irrelevant because I like it and I am not planning on selling it in the near future. Its for my enjoyment period and is not an investment. I found a hous eI liked but had to buy the lot next door to have enough room, not to mention prims. To make a long story short, I know own five 512 sm lots there and they are all contiguos [sp?] meaning they are all connected. I am still delighted with them. I have good neighbors so far and every thing is fine. One of the large landowners in that sim is seeling several lots now, so things may change, who knows? I don't want to buy all of his lots for several reasons, including increase in tier fees and many of the lots are on extreme slopes. Something annoying may very well pop up there in which case I will either deal with it or move. You pays your money and you takes your chances as the saying goes.

I paid 8,999 for each of my 512 lots. That would be considered by many to be too much but I like them which is what counts.

They do market houses that will fit on a 512. Generally however, a 1024 will be far more useful to you. I would suggest getting two side by side 512s but put your house and all of your objects on one of them, keeping the othe rone vacant. If the 512 works for you, you could sell the other 512 to a FRIEND [not just anybody]. If you find you need the entire 1024, you can start using the other lot.

Land speculators were buying up all the first land lots anyway, so you probably would not have found one.

As Raymond said, shop around, spend some time and find one you really like. That's the best advice I can give.

Best of luck to youi!!

Well I guess I will buy land but I must say that a legit site like this should not mislead its
customers. Are we supposed to look at market trends before purchasing anything online?

BTW What is the best route to go about buying land? Auctions?

When making any significant purchase, you should do some research. Auctioned plots tend to be very large plots, although you may get a better rate of L/m2. If you don't want to buy a large plot, then I would suggest researching plots in your price range using search.

Yes, they could have handled it better. You should still contact them and see if they'll throw you a bone - maybe an extra month on your premium or something. I wouldn't be surprised if LL did do something after waiting a little to see how many people keep premium or buy land anyway. Again, yes, they could have handled it better.

Open Search and click the Land tab. Set the type to be mainland and be sure to set PG/mature if you do or will care about that. Put 512 in the >= size box and click the search button.

Joey, I am relatively new myself, so am very hesitant to give any advice further than what I have already given. I would hate to give you bad advice, even inadvertantly. Raymond gave you some advice in this thread and, from what I have seen in other threads, he seems fairly sensible and certainly knowledgable.

Here is a general observation that may or may not be appropriate to your situation. Every one in SL has certain things that excite them. For all too many it is endless sexual activity, gambling or both. For others it is combat simulations or a variety of vehicles, some charming, some utilitarian, some annoying. For some, like me, it is buying clothes, dancing and enjoying music while making friends. [I am not talking about paid dancing in one of THOSE places, I am talking about just dancing with others in nice night spots.] There are some and Raymond may be one of them, who are really into the land thing.

Here's how I found my lot(s): I just went to search and looked for 512 land. I looked at a lot of places and finally found what I thought was a nice lot on a gently sloped hill and a kind of slightly wooded area. I bought it and the rest of the story is on my previous post. Once I found what I liked, I didn't really care if I "paid too much" for it. It is worth it to me. Keep in mind too that the real $ difference between 6,000 L lot and a 9,000 L lot is only 3,000 L which is approximately $11.24 in USD.

Another thing you can do is ask people you know well either in RL or SL if there is any land for sale in their neighborhoods. People will generally cooperate with getting a nice person in to their neighborhoods. For example, a good friend of mine bought three lots right next to mine.

Personally, I wouldn't get in too big a hurry. Take your time and find something you REALLY like. Keep in mind, I have NO IDEA if land prices are going up, going down or staying stable. I don't really care either.

Got you IMS
03-07-2007 12:51
Hi Joey!!

I got your IMS via my e-mail account. I can't respond until I leave work and get home. I have a7 yr. old son in RL so I generally don't get into SL until around 7:00 SL time. I do have a date tonight, but I COULD show you around the neighborhood a bit before going on the date. The date is in SL, not RL. If you are in SL this evening, or whenever, just look for me on line and I will be happy to teleport you to my land and you can look around. Also, I am pretty sure there is some nice land, very similar to what I have in a neigboring area. I think that land would be more suitable for a home. Last I checked it was also 8999 for 512 sm. Be advised that many will tell you that is too much to pay. I am happy with it though.

I look forward to meeting you!!

Land Prices
03-07-2007 16:45
In some places the prices are skyrocketing. I paid 7k for a 1024 last week. While I was buying it the plot next door sold and went up for 3 times the price. In the last two days several lots around me just sold for over 4 times what I paid JUST LAST WEEK.

I guess the money is in SL real-estate right now.

Ty, Susanne. :) Joey, I would be happy to help you in any way I can. I am not dealing land right now, but IM me with any questions.

I would find a few sims where you might want to buy land and go from there. Check the map and see if any 512 plots are available on that sim at a price you find reasonable. To see what 512s are going for, do a search for mainland in the land sales window.

Joey, don't feel bad.

You didn't have the let down of searching 800 times a day for some first land to open up and never finding it for the several more weeks longer that I have been here!

LOL, that really sucked.
