If you right click an object and choose edit, you can see how many prims an object has. Meni.

If you right click on the land and go to 'about land' and then to the objects tab it will tell you how many prims you can have and how many you are using. If you right click on an object and got to 'edit' it tells you there how many prims that object is.
With 512 land you don't get very many prims so need to check the prim size of objects before buying, they do vary.

Adding to this: In the objects tab, I believe there is a button near the bottom for "refresh" and it will show all of the objects on the parcel. I check this frequently because it tells me if someone put something on my land without me knowing it. (I've had particle generators left behind by others, missiles, unspent bullets, boxes...etec) If you do find something that is not yours and you want to remove it, you can return it to the owner
